The image at the head of the article shows the Faranteen Palace, built between 2237 AF and 2241 AF and used as the traditional home of the city ruler during the greatest years of the city.
In ancient times, however, Anoomenon was simply another
foundation city following the laws and customs of the
New Sophisticates. When
Ichika Han led a breakaway in the late
Foundation Age in 1511 AF, she established what is now known as the First Constitution in which the
Law Council provided a regulatory framework for the city and the
Prime Lawmaker steered the government and foreign policy.
This lasted until 2118 AF when the
Rationalist Council took control, ruling directly until 2160 AF in a period called the Grey Preregnum, before
Oman Phariff, the first of the Grey Kings, was awarded the throne. The Rationalist Council established the Second Constitution which encompassed the changes they planned for their successors.
The dynasty of the
Grey Kings controlled the city between 2160 AF and 2530 AF and the era from the start of
the Long Northern Peace in 2209 AF until the death of
Berick Manderson, the last of the Grey Kings in 2530 AF is commonly referred to as the Golden Age of Anoomenon.
The Grey Kings were replaced by
the Great Impartial Court, a relatively short lived aristocracy who declared a Third Constitution and managed the declining power of the city as the
Long Northern Peace came to an end.
By 2837 AF in the age of the
Role Disputes, Anoomenon had adopted a form of democracy under the Fourth Constitution, but this failed when it became mired in scandal in 2910 AF.
An oligarchy of traditional land owners and business interests who called themselved the Neo-Traditionalists took over the management of the city which is currently (as at 3180 AF) under the notional control of
the Countess of Gess and her aristocratic court. In reality, the Countess has only a little power since the city has been part of the Protectorate of
Tree'skivo for twenty years, an arrangement which was approved by the authorites at
Helsporan. One might imagine that Anoomenon now lives under a Fifth Constitution but in reality there is nothing so grand and the Neo-Traditionalists get by on precident, good will and pragmatic negotiation.
