Aluph

Aluph is the smallest of the five temples of the Sisterhood of the Blood Iris and considered especially sacred.
The Sister Exelsior at Aluph is Sythania.
In the water gardens at Aluph they keep a twisted skein of holy living tissue, known as the First Rhizome which is intimately connected to the origins of the Blood Iris Sisters.
Aluph is the first letter of the character set used by the Blood Iris Sisters and the Temple of Aluph is also the place where all of them are "born". The population of Blood Iris Sisters is managed carefully by the Council of Irises, and since they are immortal (or nearly so), there is only rarely a need for new community members. When that happens a new sister is cut from the birthing pool in a secretive ceremony that involves blood and the First Rhizome.
Sythania has special responsibilty for this vital task and in addition to her title as Sister Exelsior, she carries a special title of the Cutting Nurse.
Young Blood Iris Sisters spend the first years of their life in the Nursery at Aluph, until they complete their basic education.
