X'angolia Corporation Organization in The Delta Space | World Anvil

X'angolia Corporation

What is the X'angolia Corporation?

Many of the MegaCorpos that are in operation today share a similar origin, and the X'angolia Corporation is no different. Much like the other MegaCorpos, the X'angolia Corporation is old and found its first bout of growth in the burgeoning trade economy that was being coxed into existence with the help of The Association for Organized Galactic Economic Growth. Before the Association, Maro X'angolia, the business's first owner, ran a junkyard, filled with various parts for ships, stations, and more. He got by but struggled with debt incurred from the purchase of the space in which his junkyard business operated. But Maro's fortune changed when a friendly business partner sponsored his membership into The Association.   There, he quickly began to make connections and realized that operating the junkyard as he was, selling parts at the near value of the part to other scrappers and installers, was a loss of potential. He shifted his business model to closer to what it resembles today, keeping the parts he collected and instead beginning to offer refurbished parts installation and repair services to large cargo ships and space stations. Sending out a newly hired crew of mechanics to conduct discounted repairs that used his large stock of junkyard items. Soon enough, due to his discounted prices, many space stations that were low on funds began to request his services in droves. And in a few short years, Maro X'angolia had made a tidy sum while paying off all of his debts.   Soon afterwards, he would rename the company to its current name the X'angolia Corporation and began to invest his earnings into purchasing other scrap yards and their inventory, hiring more staff, and expanding in other sectors. Over the next few decades, he and his company would become the go-to service for discount repairs and parts. And while Maro revolutionized his company, he was not a swindler and did not cheat any of his clients. The X'angolia Corporation back then had a stellar reputation for honesty and even did jobs for free for struggling stations.

A Change in Attitude

But all of that changed when Maro X'angolia passed away, having had no children his business passed into the hands of his board of directors. Since then, this board has guided the actions of the company for generations and has transformed it into one of the most successful companies in its shared industries. Though arguably at a great cost. The board would sully the companies good name and transform it into one of the vilest and backhanded companies in the galaxy. Establishing themselves as a ruthless business willing to do anything to make a profit.    One of their most infamous decrees was when they launched the company's financing plan for low-income clients, which on paper or to those unaware of their shady practices seemed quite fair. A low-interest rate plan, that allowed customers to pay off large sums over long lengths of time. Though sadly a cleverly disguised clause allows the company to take ownership of whatever property the financing plan involves if payments are missed. This has given the MegaCorpo ownership over thousands of transport ships, cargo ships, and even the large space station that would eventually become The Pleasure Domes of Exon-5.   One of the more surprising directions the board took the corporation was into a completely new and unrelated industry from the junk and repair industry it was used to. This new industry was in gambling and entertainment, and the X'angolia Corporation invested huge sums into their new endeavour very quickly. Taking over ownership of dozens of casinos and entertainment facilities in the span of only a few years, they did so in both legitimate purchases and under-the-table dealings. The corporation would actually record losses for a few years, the first time in decades, but soon afterwards their gamble would pay off. Their investments began to make money, especially the casinos, where not only did all the gambling make them money, but offering private spaces for shady businessmen to conduct private matters also proved fruitful. This latter business is not officially on the books but it is rumoured that the corporation often takes large sums to allow for criminals and businessmen to make shady deals away from prying eyes.   From its more humble beginnings, one thing is accepted by all, the X'angolia Corporation has become the top business in its shared industries, easily blocking out other companies trying to gain a foothold. They have some of the highest earnings in all of The Delta Space, and easily have earned the title of MegaCorpo, and sit amongst the giants of industry of the Delta Space. However, it is assured that if their founder Maro X'angolia knew what had become of his business and that it now facilitates crime, shady business, and takes advantage of the poor, would be disgusted at what it has become.
