Cosmic Burst - Silicon Gas Giant Flare

A Colourful Cosmic Event

This natural phenomenon has been occurring since the dawn of the silicon gas giants that the Gasloids call home. The planet and the Gasloids themselves all intermingle with each other, working to keep themselves and the planets healthy and rejuvenated at all times.   Because of this, the Gasloids use a lot of material during these refresher phrases on the planet, and further, a lot of 'junk' or leftover materials are created that have no real purpose on the planet anymore. As such, every now and then the planet and the Gasloids must purge these leftover materials from the planet's core which they collect.    To do so, the planet builds up pressure within a pocket in its core, using remnant silicon gas from its reserves, collecting all of the junk material amongst it, and then releasing the pressure build-up to jettison the junk into space. The relieved gas and junk material plumes up and out of the planet into the upper atmosphere and beyond in a wild display of colours that is clearly visible from off-world.     The junk material is then left to drift off into space, often being collected by other objects in space for their own usage. Often other planetoids nearby are looking to put on mass, and gladly use this junk material to do so.

Dangers

While the event is incredibly beautiful, and people do occasionally travel from afar to witness it, the event can also pose a significant danger for those that aren't careful.   The colourful plume may look fairly harmless, but it is in fact a highly pressurized and superheated gas of enormous proportions.   Any ship that gets too close to the stream could very well be ripped to pieces by the powerful pressure of the gas.   Or if their hull isn't made of sufficiently protective material could be melted away in mere moments exposing the occupants to both the rigours of space, and to the gas itself which is highly poisonous to carbon-based life forms.

Sentient Gas

One of the more interesting and widely unknown facts about this phenomenon is that the gas eruption is actually somewhat sentient. Because the planets are comprised primarily of silicon gases, including the intermingling of the semi-autonomous network of Gasloids.   Many Gasloids actually get swept up into the plume of gas and are temporarily pushed up into their own upper atmosphere. Though, they are somewhat denser than the junk materials being jettisoned so they are able to eventually float back down to lower atmosphere after a few rotations without much harm done.   This experience has given many Gasloids their first glimpses of the galaxy outside of their planet's lower atmosphere and has been the catalyst for their wanderlust and for their desire to leave their homeworlds to discover more of the galaxy.
Summary
A large expression of junk and leftover materials mixed with super pressurized silicon gas that is jettisoned occasionally from one of the Gasloid home planets. This jettisoned gas is to relieve the planet of built-up pressure and no-longer useful material, instead shunting them off into space where they may be picked up by another space object for further use.   The expression of gas is massive and plumes thousands of feet up into the planet's upper atmosphere in a rainbow-coloured streak that is visible clearly from off-world. Stories of the beautiful display have been told as far off as the Variance space station, encouraging patient travellers to trek the long distance from afar, to the remote region of space in the hopes of viewing the spectacular event.
