The Heart Sea
The Heart Sea is the turbulent ocean sitting in the center of ephonel that the continents encircle. It is often rocked by massive storms, violent waves, and myriad other perils, making its crossing ever treacherous. Few people sail The Heart Sea save the Smokereavers from The Searstones, the scattered archipelago in the sea's center. In this region around The Searstones, the very air and water are bakingly hot to the point that when they mix with colder currents from The Empty Sea, carried inward between the continents, steam occasionally rises over large swaths of the sea.
Geography
*the sea itself is also dotted by a series of volcanic islands called the searstone isles, home to the smokemen, a savage bright red-skinned, seafaring, waring people. we know little of the culture, traditions, or religion of the smokemen, and much of the searstones geography is uncharted.*
Tourism
Despite being highly dangerous, The Heartsea remains an uncommon shipping route in modern times. Because, while the risk is immense, it can be remarkably faster sailing as the crow flies than going around The Ringpeaks and into The Empty Sea. This course dramatically saves on supplies and wages for the crew, and the trade has led to the development of ships specifically meant to sail The Heart Sea and survive its storms and waves, called Turtle Ships. These Turtle Ships have revolutionized trade between The Ascendist World and Yevela, breathing new life into The DCY and The Horizon Company -who is one of their biggest users.
