Sonopra

Sonpra is the Wood Elf city in the Fermata Forest.

Demographics

There are over a hundred Clans of Wood Elves in Sonopra. There are no outsiders. There isn't much wealth, either, as almost all of them are Druids or Rangers, and either live off the land, or purposefully use Druidic magic to grow/shape their food, equipment, and homes.

Government

Each Clan has a leader, which is often the Clan Elder. Together, the Clan leaders vote in a Conductor or Conductress to rule over all of them. This leadership position is largely symbolic. People will obey the Conductress, but for her to maintain respect she'll usually need to lead by example, and give orders that seem logical and work out. Ineffectual Conductors don't tend to last very long.

Defences

Sonopra, and the larger Fermata Forest surrounding it, is well patrolled by stealthy Wood Elf warriors. It is said that no one has ever seen Sonopra without first being approached and invited. Those who are approached and not invited either leave, or are never heard from again. The Wood Elves are said to be extremely territorial.

Industry & Trade

Sonopra is largely self-sufficient, and while they live simple lives, they don't really need to trade for much. Occasionally they'll trade with Dwarven merchants for little indulgences, such as wool blankets or furnaces, and during bad winters they do sometimes need to trade for food, but otherwise they don't really engage with trade much.

Infrastructure

They tend to rely on Druidic magic to get what they want, or scavenge/hunt the land for food and basic resources.

History

It is said that the Wood Elves and High Elves used to belong to the same tribe, but they split off from one another long ago during the Quiet Age. No one knows if this is true or not, and there are reasons to doubt it. Sonopra was founded during the Quiet Age, but there isn't a single Wood Elf alive today who remembers it. They think it may have been as much as two thousand years ago. It is said that during the Quiet Age, the Elves and Humans may have lived together, much as they do today in New Crescendo. If true, then at some point they must have split off from one another, though it's unclear as to why, or even if this happened at all. There are some ancient sites in Sonopra that they believe battle likely took place in, and some Wood Elves believe these battle sites might be related to the reason the humans left. There is evidence that this may have been a war between Elves and Orcs, however, and might not be related to humans at all.

Architecture

They live high in the redwood trees of the Fermata Forest, having grown houses in the tree tops. Unlike the High Elves who grew their homes from seedlings, the Wood Elves of Sonopra used trees that were already there, and very well grown, so they had to build high, as there wouldn't be an effective way to shape them at ground-level where they were already grown in.

Geography

Sonopra is deep within the northern Fermata Forest, which is incredibly dense and difficult terrain. There's a river that runs through the center of it, which the Dwarves use sometimes to enter their lands for trade.
