Shaper

Shapers are Elven druids, who use special Druidic magic to gently and carefully shape plant life as it grows. This requires an incredible amount of patience, skill, and eye for detail, often requiring hours of work every day for as long as it takes for the plant to finish growing. Druidic Grower magic rarely works in conjunction with Shaper magic, as Grower magic tends to result in weak wood and other materials, which tends to be the opposite of what a skilled Shaper wants for their construction.   Shapers make almost everything in Elven society, both in New Crescendo and Sonopra, such as:
  • Wooden Tools (1-12 months typically)
  • Incredibly strong, long vinerope (typically 1 foot per week)
  • Weapons, including the Elven Volante (Wooden Sword, ~1-2 years)
  • Vinerope Armor (1-2 months)
  • Wood Plate Armor (1-4 years)
  • Ships (50-300 years)
  • Houses (20-1000 years depending on size/complexity)

Perception

Social Status

Shapers are treated extremely well, and the particularly skilled ones live in luxury. While some are merely part of the worker class of High Elves, others are considered artists, or master craftsmen, and so they possess a decent amount of power in High Elf society. In Sonopra, the Wood Elf shapers are an extremely skilled group of people, but tend to make things to be functional rather than works of art, and so are just considered an extremely skilled type of craftsmen.

Demographics

There are hundreds of Shapers in both New Crescendo and Sonopra, but there are only a handful of Master Shapers. Typically a Shaper learns how to make a specific type of thing, and becomes incredibly focused on that one trade for hundreds of years.

History

It's unknown exactly when the Elves developed this ability. By the Age of Echos, both the Wood Elves and the High Elves had firmly mastered these magical skills, which suggests it's been around for a very long time.

Operations

Tools

No tools are required for the spellcasting, though some will use a bit of rope here, or a sharp rock or stick there to help guide their work or fix mistakes. A single mistake could ruin months, or even years of work, so a wide variety of tricks have developed over the years.
