Sweet Melody Prose in The Centurion's Riddle | World Anvil

Sweet Melody

The Dreamer screams, keeping his hold for another evening, and delivers a sliver of peace. He brings sweetness and laudanum, pushing us deep into the waking vision, to the moonlit forests of Night...   There were three things Melody didn't like about Tesin Movahesh.   The first, was that she was too way too pretty.   Unnaturally so. Despite just getting knocked unconscious and losing her sword, she'd beaten the two-headed gorilla to death with her bare hands, covering every inch of the both of them in blood. Yet her hair was still kept. Her skin without blemish. Her armor somehow made more beautiful by the carnage. When her Wings and blade returned, Tesin resembled an ancient painting, an attempt to outline the glory of the gods.   Melody: "Well, that sucked."   Tesin nodded, and started checking the body for keys.   The second thing, was that Tesin hardly ever talked.   It was like travelling with a robot, except that Melody could program her robots to engage in conversation. Unless they were talking about killing someone, or she was angry as all hell, the best you could get out of Tesin was a nod, a shake of the head, a frown, or complete, stoic, blank-in-the-face silence. When the golem in the last room broke one of Tesin's fingers, she responded with a sigh.   Tesin lifted a golden key from the gorilla's corpse, and pointed towards the door. It was a boss key... The boss door.   They'd finally made it to the end.   Melody: "Once we go in, there's no going back."
Tesin: "Yup."
Melody: "You're sure the Spirit will attack as soon as we're out?"   Tesin shrugged.   Melody: "Let me take point on this one -- you'll need to keep your strength. Any particular strategy?"
Tesin: "Teleport at the start. Get a good view from above. Then I can plummet down."   They didn't know what was beyond that door. According to the Spirit, only one other group had seen it, and they'd never lived to share their knowledge. When they'd left the Sixth Avenue, they'd immediately tried for the Seventh... The latter half of the Rambling Road, which could only be entered after defeating the Spirit of the Well.   She'd killed them all.   Tesin was going to take that on by herself...   That was the third thing Melody didn't like about Tesin Movahesh. She was foolish to a fault. An literal information addict. So hungry for a secret that she'd give up her own soul. It would likely be the death of them both, if Melody wasn't careful. She'd just have to be careful enough for the both of them.   Tesin spun the key in the palm of her hand, caught the end, and walked towards the boss door.   But there was something to like in Tesin Movahesh, Melody supposed.   When faced with overwhelming odds, or an enemy that could put a dent in a skyscraper, Tesin didn't despair. She didn't get nervous, like she did around crowds, or conversations that strayed from murder and secrets. She didn't scream, or cry, or complain.   She fucking smiled.   As the door pulled them in, and their spacesuits screamed as they were thrust into space, and a worm made of bones pulled its way out of a nearby asteroid.   Tesin showed her fangs, summoned her weapon, and spread her wings.   It was hard to be a coward in the face of that.
