Hope Lights the Forge Prose in The Centurion's Riddle | World Anvil

Hope Lights the Forge

We find ourselves in the heart of the Forge, panning over broken barricades and moaning bodies. Soldiers in red-plated armor push against a line of Androids, desperately fighting to keep the Aspis Consortium out of their home.   Helen and Deku go toe-to-toe at the center of the conflict -- a serpentine monstrosity wielding a blade made of lies, dodging grenades from a cocky young warrior, confident in his dexterity and skills. The line breaks. Androids fall. Helen is pushed back as the warriors join Deku, and soon she is outnumbered. Fear sets in like a shroud.   The last moments are to come. Boots drag on steel as the final vestiges of defense push back at the invaders, doing everything to keep them out of the Core…   And then a rumble.   The camera shakes. The Forge hums.   The Core begins to tune all by itself. No…   By the will of the Fire.   The strength of the Shepherd.   A light explodes from the Core, ignoring others, and blessing some. Our camera zooms out rapidly, ducking in between swinging beams and whirling gears, following the light as it covers the planet from Core to Mantle. At last, we arrive in the office of Gregar Taxus, who leaps from his desk in shock. The light passes over him, but does nothing. Radios begin blaring at his desk, with men crying out in confusion, and distress calls soon begin to mix together, as the Corporal calls to his aids for help. In the corner, still hanging on the meat hooks that Deku left him on, Cromwell laughs.   And laughs.   And laughs.
