Flint Penumbra
Flint Penumbra (a.k.a. The Black Rider)
Flint Penumbra, also known as the Black Rider, is a powerful Fetchling that roams the border between Golarion and Leng, defending the common folk from outsider invaders. Although he is rarely seen outside of Leng, mortals often catch glimpses of him in their nightmares -- particularly right at the end, when he starts eviscerating the source of their fears.
Physical Description
Special abilities
- I Have Seen the Fire (Passive, Constant): Throughout his fabled journeys, Flint has witnessed the presence of creatures well beyond the pale, perhaps even beyond the Dark Tapestry. After surviving this ordeal, he is no longer disturbed by the "mundane", and there are few horrors strong enough to break him. Flint is immune to Shaken and Frightened from all sources, and any Sanity-based effects only target Flint if they are from a deity or Outer God. For abilities that target creatures of the Infinity Petal specifically, Flint is treated as if he were a creature from another Petal. Flint is capable of Skipping, and can Hop under the right conditions.
- Lord of House Penumbra (Passive, Constant): Flint is the master of the Plane of Shadow that resides in Golarion, and has been involved in conflicts with the creatures of Leng for several millenia. He is immune to any effect generated by a non-Saint-level creature with the Shadow template, or (similarly) any spell or item that generates an effect based on shadows, nightmares, or darkness. Even in direct sunlight, unless combated by another ability with equal power and opposite effect, all space within 120 ft. of Flint is considered to be one light level lower. When in any environment besides direct sunlight, Flint is treated as having a 50% miss chance (not Total Concealment) from Saint-level creatures or lower.
- I Have A Thing For That (Reaction, 3/Day): Beneath Flint's robes are an impressive, inter-connected highway of bandoliers, on which dozens of bottles, potions, elixirs, and ingredients are spread in an organized chaos. Anytime during combat that Flint fails at something — may that be a skill check, attack roll, saving throw, or even being hit by another creature — he may invoke one use of this ability to pull an item from within his robes, which was just what he needed to nullify the effect entirely.
Relationships
History
Flint Penumbra is said to be Gaezel's father, implying that he had the child with Baba Yaga. However, many believe that the child was created of Flint's essence without the Rider's consent, and that the two were simply acquantinces at some point before the Lost Age.
History
Although Gaezel and Flint share the same last name, the two are rarely associated despite their broad infamy, given a nigh-total lack of interaction over the years. Scholars believe that Gaezel was born of Baba Yaga's trickery (i.e. without Flint's consent), which has created a certain level of distrust and disdain between the two.
