The Disrobed

"I don't want to live my life covered. I want to see my children, my wife. Appreciate her beauty every day. Not layers and layers of cloth on her."
The sunlight coming from The Surface to the upper layers of The Pit has peculiar properties. Not only a short contact with it can completely bleach most of the materials, but the longer exposure also corrodes most of the things into sand covering the Surface layers, and standing in one of the sun rays can kill and burn someone down in a matter of seconds. To protect themselves from its deadly intensity, the People of the Surface wear masks and robes covered with oils coming from the bodies of Beasts from Above.   And then there are The Disrobed.
The ones who reject covering their bodies. The ones who challenge the sun itself.

Defeating the nature itself

The first Disrobed either didn't wear any clothes at all or they wore whatever they liked as long as most of their bodies were still exposed. Most of them didn't live too long losing to heat and the sunlight scorching their bodies. That was until the sun-protective properties of the oils covering the bodies of the Beasts were found. Just by spreading them all over themselves, they could defeat the scorching light the same way everyone else could.

The Disrobed and the tribes

Most of the Disrobed are the solitary anomalies within their tribes. Their actions are often seen as stupidity and they are either ignored or mocked by their tribesmen. As their bodies, compared to the clothes, need to be covered more often, their rebellious endeavors end as soon as the leader of the tribe threatens them with throwing them out of the tribe for wasting the resources.   There are, however, the tribes consisting completely out of the Disrobed. They move more than even the most mobile tribes. This is because to meet the demand for oil for all of the members of their tribes, they need to constantly hunt for the Beasts. Or take it from whoever else has it.
Alternative names:
The Unreserved (as they call themselves), Naked madmen (as everyone else calls them)

Hazards of living as a Disrobed

Aside from the constant hunt for Beasts endangering their lives and being exposed to the full power of the sun should the oils they cover themselves with be wiped off or dry out, there's one other just as serious danger related to their lives. Namely, the oils gathered from the Beasts don't react well with human skin. It may take years, in some cases only months, but prolonged contact with them hardens the skin. Some see it as a blessing, after all now they are more impervious to damage and weapons of their enemies. The smart ones realize that they get less and less mobile. If they don't stop, their skin gets harder and harder, making it more difficult to move and breathe. The most unlucky ones get stuck within their own bodies, and soon become husks when the sunlight catches up to them.
"Then why don't they move to the lower layers?"
"Shh, you'll only anger them."
