Flying Serpent

Flying Serpents, are also known as Couatls or Feathered Snakes.
They are so rare, that seeing one is considered a blessing.
Being chosen as their owner is one of the greatest honors known in The Pit.
  There must be something special about you, something we people can't see.
When you are selected, the Couatl flies up to you and touches your skin with its body.
This will leave the opalescent mark on you.
  Said Snake will from now on be your friend and mentor, it will help you fight with its venom and protect you with its advice.
For the one chosen can understand the speech of Flying Serpents and is immune to their venom.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Flying Serpents are long reptiles with a pair of colorful, feathered wings growing out of their backs.
Their body is covered in opalescent scales.
There are horns and feathers growing out of their heads.
They have two pairs of eyes.
A full-grown individual can measure between 1.5 and 2.5 meters.

Genetics and Reproduction

No one knows the method of reproduction of these species as two indivviduals were never seen in the same place at the same time.
It is suspected that they reproduce by parthenogenesis.

Dietary Needs and Habits

The Flying Serpents are carnivores, feeding on the meat and eggs of their prey.
They kill their prey by injecting venom into them with a bite and waiting until the toxin kills the prey.

Biological Cycle

Just as normal snakes, they go through periodical shedding of the skin.

Some can even tell details about The Guardians of The Tree and The Tree itself.
Conservation Status
As the extremely small number of Couatls is still alive, they are considered an endangered species and are protected by the law. It is illegal to hunt them. If someone is chosen by one of them and marked, the person is considered an owner of said specimen. In that case, forceful separation of the marked one and the reptile is also considered a criminal offense.
