Awakening

Imagine a 4-year-old suddenly waking up, his body covered only in rags. Imagine him laying on the burning sand with the scorching sun shining from above. While many who woke up on The Surface layers 15 years ago (an event called an Awakening), died the first day, the fate had a different path for him. As he raised up his head, only to be blinded by the light, he noticed a small rock casting an even smaller shadow. But it was enough for him. He crawled to it and hid there, experiencing a small relief. But as time passed, the shadow started to move and when it grew smaller, the kid again was left in the sun. Burning his feet, the boy moved to another shadow. And then another.
It is unknown how long it took him or how exactly he managed to survive, but while traveling from shadow to shadow, Aamir managed to find other people who just woke up in The Pit. They had enough luck to find an oasis, and that's how their tribe started. The leader of the group took care of Aamir and so, the rest of the group jokingly called him Little Prince.
As he grew, he adapted more and more to the harsh environment of The Surface layers. While the group he was in changed and merged with other groups, his young age became his advantage. Because who would care about talking about stuff with a kid around. And Aamir listened. And learned. So when he reached his teenage years, he started to use what he learned. Forming new contacts, organizing shipments, and trade caravans. Giving the right tips for needed resources at the right time and place. No one noticed it yet, but almost all trading transactions go through him in some way. And he does it for two reasons. One, he genuinely likes anything related to trading and supplying. Two, thanks to his control, enough of the resources are provided for his tribe, he and his people can live in prosperity.

A fool and a genius

While the Prince achieved a lot, almost no one would suspect him of owning a fair share of control in the trades of The Surface. Being a late teenager, he still has the aura of brashness and rudeness to him. He's a skirt-chaser that only thinks about relaxing, eating, and drinking. Or sandboarding, a thing he's really good at. Many think of him as a selfish fool, still with milk under his nose. And that's what he uses to his advantage. To gather information from the girls and when he pretends to be too drunk to be considered as a potential eavesdropper. To create new contacts just by being a friendly party animal. Not all of this is an act. He really loves to party and to satisfy his needs in a hedonistic way. But if he can have fun while doing so, then why not do that.
