Guardian

In Kalriv society, Guardians are a social class that occupies the top rung of Kalriv society along with the Solars. They are drawn from the warriors and soldiers of the Kalriv Legions, and also include administrators and nobles.

Requirements

A member of the Guardian caste must meet one of the following requirements:
  • They must be descended from the original Kalriv protectors from the time of the founding of the Empire, or;
  • They must have distinguished themselves in battle to the point where the Overlord and High Solar themselves approve their induction, or;
  • They must be descended from a soldier who has been inducted into the Guardians.

Appointment

After a person has been chosen to be inducted into the Guardian class, they are summoned to Var Kalriv. There they attend a ceremony at the Venderan Ziggurat in the presence of the Overlord and High Solar themselves. The Overlord formally inducts the person and their bloodline into the Guardians, and the High Solar invokes the blessings of Venderus. The new Guardian's name is then entered into the Honoured Record, and they meet with an artist to create their sigil.

Duties

Male Guardians are expected to continuously train, drill and be ready to be deployed for a military engagement at a moment's notice. Female Guardians are either expected to do the same or are expected to maintain peak physical fitness in order to bear healthy offspring.

Benefits

As part of the Kalriv elite, the Guardian caste has several benefits, including;
  • The right to own land
  • The right to own slaves
  • The right to become an officer in the Kalriv Legions
  • The right to enter the political sphere and vote in the military assembly
  • The right to a trial and the right of appeal

Accoutrements & Equipment

Each Guardian creates their own sigil at the time of induction. This sigil may be inscribed upon their shields and armour, and may be etched on their banners in war.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

A Guardian can be stripped of their rank for infractions of Kalriv law or failing to maintain the standard of conduct to which a Guardian is expected to adhere to (keeping in fighting shape, maintaining equipment, etc). This is done by the Guardian facing a trial before a military tribunal. If convicted, Guardians can be stripped of their rank. Depending on the infraction, they can be exiled, made slaves, or executed.
