Zasker Grankus

The Gladius

Zasker Grankus is the charismatic and likeable "reformed barbarian" and leader of the mercenary guild Zelkarune's Horns. Under his leadership the Horns have become one of the most successful organisations in Keymouth.   Zasker took the title of "The Gladius" when he first rose to the leadership of the Horns. This happened when he bested the previous leader, Dhezir Skell, in single combat in the Keymouth Arena. The "Battle of the Barbarians" is still spoken of in revered tones in taphouses throughout the Empire.   He is a man of action, and likes to get actively involved in the running of the Horns. That may take the form of partaking in the arena battles on show days, or going on hunts for the wild creatures used in those battles. As a result of those hunts he has ventured further into the Fearwyd Weald than almost anyone.

Appearance and Mannerisms

Zasker is a tall and imposing figure, well muscled, broad of shoulder and with piercing dark eyes. He often goes bare chested so as to display the myriad battle scars on his torso.   He will often fall silent and let other speak, deep in thought before speaking his mind in a forthright manner.   Zasker tends to refer to himself in the third person, which can lead some to incorrectly assume he is of low intelligence. In fact he has very bright, with a ready wit and a disarming smile.   The Gladius likes to wear finely crafted leather armours and a blue chlamys cloak pinned to one shoulder.

Notable Achievements

Zasker is most famous for his defeat of Dhezir Skell in the "Battle of the Barbarians".   He is also a great hunter, and his chambers in Zelkarune's Hall have walls covered in exotic skins and heads of the beasts he has slain.
