Kiorna Kester
Kiorna Kester owns and runs Kester's Leather Goods, a large tannery and leatherworkers store in Saltmarsh. Here she produces smooth, colourful leather of exquisite quality for every purpose, and sells both the cured hides and items she fashions from it.
Kiorna is a Drow, but has lived in the fishing port for many decades, having been found abandoned as a babe in the hills to the north.
At that time The Great Pelagic War between the Cerulean Empire and the Antarian Federation was nearing it's conclusion. Normally such a discovery back then would have ended with the death of the child, but her adoptive father, the ranger Darnok Kester, was a good-hearted man and took pity on the mewling babe.
Bringing Kiorna back to Saltmarsh, Darnok initially kept his ward hidden, for fear of what the townsfolk would do to one of their sworn enemies in a time of war. Only after the war ended did Darnok, who was viewed by the townspeople as a bit of a folk hero for his actions during the war, reveal the "daughter" he had found.
That was many, many years past however, and Darnok died decades ago. Kiorna is now simply accepted as a valued member of the town community. In fact, she is so well thought of that most will do anything in their power to defend her. For her own part Kiorna considers herself just like everyone else in the town, and thinks not at all on her Drow blood.
Only recently, with the arrival of the Copperlocks Mining Company has any tension been felt. It has been less than eighty years since The Subterranean Struggle , and Dwarves have long memories...
Kiorna is keenly interested in acquiring hides from exotic creatures to craft into expensive leather. She pays a good fee for the intact hides of any unusual beast or monstrosity.
She is good friends with Feliza Hemwic, and the two can often be found laughing together in The Snapping Line.
