Bioroid

"Ethical Bioronics involves much the same dilemmas as AI, but what are we to do about it? Humanoid Bioroids are often treated much worse than humanoid AI drones. Focus groups show opposite reactions; they want robots to be more human, but they want bioroids to be much less human. What does this say about us as a species?"   ~Antaric Beregost, Doctor-Premier of Bioronics, Lecture #08

AI's Squishy Twin

Bioroid brains are assembled from organoids grown in specialized labs. These organoids are chemically 'trained' and then piled together, where they merge into a mass in the rough shape of a human brain. Their 'training' also merges, and they form complex computational matrices with less 'junk' than a human brain. Unlike an AI, this is not the end of the process, but really the beginning. The Bioroid brain can't survive outside of a life support system for long, and must be placed into a body not too long after its creation.   Due to the precision timing in their construction and the catastrophic effects of things going wrong, Bioroids tend to be made-to-order rather than mass produced.

Nega-Cyborgs

Cyborgs are human beings with machine parts. Bioroids are essentially the opposite: they are biological and robotic machines around which cloned and vat-grown parts are assembled. Consequentially, they have a whole host of Advantages possible, but all of them have at least the baseline template noted. Some bioroids are bodies grown for CCM, but these are a sort of novelty. Either way, they're technology wrapped in home grown meat.

Proprietary Creatures

To build a Bioroid, start with a bioronic brain or Cerebroid-Crystal Matrix.   Then, choose a morph (below) to act as the scaffold on which to hang Bioronics.

Morphs

Skitter: This morph is little more than a ring of spiderlike legs and some manipulators with just enough life support to keep the brain going. SM -2, $8,000.   Canid: This morph is a quadruped with an elongated body, with the brian platform on a swivelling neck. SM-1, $10,000   Homunculus: This morph is a short humanoid shape roughly 3 ft. tall. SM-1, $12,000.   Otherman: This is a human-sized, humanoid morph, 5-7 f.t tall. SM 0, $18,000.   Tauroid: This is a large quadruped with a long neck sporting two manipulators. SM+1, $25,000.   Archangel: This is a large, humanoid morph with a pair of functional wings. SM+1, $125,000.   Magog: This is a large, thickset humanoid morph roughly the size of a bipedal elephant (20'-23' tall), SM+3, $250,000.

Fuel

Bioroids eat Clonefeed. This functions as their fuel, hydration, lubricant, and provides all of the nutrients that they require.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Bioroids are assembled from disparate parts purpose-grown for the function. Their central processor is constructed from brain organoids that are grown and programmed in individual tasks and then amalgamated together by letting them absorb each other.

Genetics and Reproduction

The vast majority of bioroids are sterile, though a few companion models (stereotypically those purchased by ultrawealthy narcissists) have been upgraded with the proper organs for human reproduction.

Growth Rate & Stages

Bioroids are not clones. They are not grown from a zygote in a lab. When they are assembled, it is as their adult form.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Bioroids require an ultra-dense nutrient solution, usually delivered in crystalline form. These nutrients are manufactured by several corporations.

Biological Cycle

Bioroids require 4-8 hours of downtime and maintenance per day, sometimes errantly called 'sleeping.'

Behaviour

Bioroids behave in much the same way as Shackled AI, though there is greater latitude in their ability for independent initiative which makes them a good midpoint between Shackled and Unshackled AI.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Depending on the parts invovled, they may display a wide array of potential senses. They can display everything from infrared to ultraviolet sight into X-ray or G-ray vision, ultrahearing, tactile-vibration sense, and any number of even more exotic senses.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Bioroids are almost never named with human names, in order to reinforce their inhumanity. That being said, humans are what humans are and those with human faces will often receive names from their masters.

Common Taboos

One of the organoids that make up the processor of the Bioroid resembles a Cricket in function and nature. By nature of the chemical programming, the rules imposed are somewhat more vague and tends to resemble Legalist or Utilitarian virtues.
