High Performance Nutrition, and a Leash
Clonefeed isn't exactly 'nutrition' in a traditional sense. It's a full-suite maintenance package that repairs a Clone's cells, provides all of the calories, minerals, and proteins alongside a package of suicidal nanites that shore up a Clone's unnatural body, eliminates anomalies, and seeks out and destroys diseases that a Clone's rudimentary immune system couldn't handle. To use a metaphor, it's fuel, lubricant, and replacement parts in a juice box.
It requires at least a 3G License to buy, making most clones ineligible for it. Moreover, clones can't survive indefinitely without it. This means that clones that become outlaws risk worse than starvation regardless of how successful their Criminal career happens to be. All of this is, of course, by design.
Don't Eat That
To reiterate: Clonefeed isn't 'food' per se. It's an engineered substance specifically to maintain the bodies of clones. That being said, it does not have the same effect on non-clones, with the exception of Bioroids (who don't require it for maintenance but consume it for fuel) and Tankbrains. Someone whose system is not prepared to eat Clonefeed develop crippling gastrointestinal distress, starting with diarrhea and vomiting for several hours, and then intestinal paralysis for up to a week after. In rare cases, the nanites might identify the entire body as a tumor and attempt to excise it, resulting in death.
You Get What you Pay For
There are added benefits to treating your clones. Clonefeed comes in six grades (A-F) as well as a 'homebrewed' version... and an alcoholic beverage made by brave and/or foolhardy moonshiners called Gutrot. Higher grade Clonefeed gives higher grade performances from the clones. The effects last for 8 hours, just in time for their next meal.

Significance
This is an essential part of any clone's diet by design. Most clones are not allowed to buy this for themselves, and it's a means of control by the PSC to ensure that there are no clone uprisings due to the fact that there are so many military-use clones in human space.
