Personal history
Jerry was a child prodigy hacker. He made a lot of money in ransomware attacks, then used those funds to increase the power of his setup. When he was twelve, he moved on to designing boutique viruses for criminals and terrorists. He was a thoroughly wealthy man by the time he was an adult.
When he was twenty, he realized that a greater-than-normal number of potential clients had all the hallmarks of Terran Homestar Intelligence, so he stopped selling viruses and moved on to logic bombs, illegal AI programs that terminate themselves when their work is done. He created these and mostly sold them to terrorists and separatist movements for exorbitant prices.
These programs were tracked to their source and he was arrested and sentenced to twenty years in prison for Creation of Illegal Unshackled AIs and Abuse of Sentients, which he pleaded guilty to in order to avoid thousands of other charges. He was let out in ten years as part of a mercy reduction due to being assaulted repeatedly in prison by fellow inmates who disliked his lack of social skills.
He made his way to space shortly after his release, bouncing around from ship to ship who appreciate his skill with technology but found his habits of taking shortcuts and his lack of social skills to be disqualifying.
He wound up on the LFS Derelict under Captain Midas some years before the Rush. The captain never minded his indolence or his lack of social skills so long as the work gets finished.
This situation benefitted the both of them, but Jerry grew increasingly reclusive and lonely until he bought a 'companion drone' named Sweety. He programmed her with a Shackled AI and mechanic and tech skills. They collaborate on the maintenance work together while he barely leaves his room.

A former child prodigy, reclusive hacker, prisoner, and introverted shipboard engineer, Jerry has a deep fantasy life but doesn't get out much. His desires and needs are largely fulfilled by Sweety.

Jerry is self-taught, and once he was able to designed an AI program to see to his education and train him how to design better and more elegant programs.

Jerry is the Technical Expert and the Engineer on the LFS Derelict, earning him two shares.
Mental Trauma
Jerry is a recluse, and has increasingly become so as he ages. He blames other people for the messes he's gotten into, and is has a deep social anxiety as a result. Solarnet is the only place that he feels free to be himself.
