Dwarves

Dwarves reach maturity in their early 20s and live around 250 years, though they can reach 300 or more.   By the time the Elves came to Thaeria, Dwarves or 'Dwemer' in their native tongue had already advanced far beyond the other humanoid species of the continent. Their cities sat below the surface of the land and their isolationist attitude meant encounters with them were few and far between. The arrival of the Elves , which triggered an age of enlightenment for those on the surface, was not as beneficial for the Dwarves, for it also brought the Drow .   The Drow came across the vast Shaderetch sea in the Underdark and set upon the Gith  and Dwarves of Thaeria. Both withdrew and the dwarves were able to hold the great tunnels and caverns beneath Kem-Maldur, the Drow suitably content with Sinellah  and the borders in the underdark they had claimed. Something arguably positive did emerge from the devastating war though, the Dwarves began venturing above ground, forming alliances with the Goliaths and Humans that had settled on Kem-Maldur and gaining their aid in the struggle against the Drow .   To this day Dwarves can still be seen as a little isolationist, and they do have certain idiosyncrasies which does not help this image, but they are in fact a very warm people, especially fond of Goliaths  and Humans for the bonds they formed in those early days (and their common fondness for a good drink helps too). They view most species that choose to live above ground with a sort of amused confusion, rather than any kind of disdain. In fact it is Dwarves themselves that are most likely to garner suspicion and contempt from underground Dwarven society, for they simply don't understand why other species choose to live above ground, but they do not trust Dwarves that choose to.
