Tersten Hegemony
The Tersten Hegemony was founded in 53 PC (2288), three years after the first Unathi settlers arrived on Tersten, following the opening of its borders to Sol migration. It is headed by the Ssaema, a council of fifteen elders, rotated between the twenty-three districts of the Hegemony.
The Hegemony's primary purpose is to maintain the land granted to them by the Republic of Tersten, and to maintain good relations between the Unathi and the Tersten people. It handles any disputes, both internal and external. It is subject to its own internal laws, politics, and customs. Unlike the Moghes Hegemony, every Tersten Clan is automatically a member of the Hegemony as part of the agreement signed upon the Hegemony's founding.
The biggest difference between Tersten Unathi (Known as Terstnathi) and their Moghesian counterpart is clan size. Most clans have around twelve individuals. Even Unathi society has not been immune to the overall Terstener culture present across the planet. Their ideals have shifted towards a higher emphasis on the individual. Internal conflicts rarely turn violent, with most Terstnathi living a much more peaceful life. Preachers of the various cults, either by choice, or by request from the Tersten State, are focusing on the more peaceful aspects of their faith.
Rural, communal living is common, with many clans forced to rely on help from their neighbours due to such small clan sizes. As a result, the Clan is held to much more value than those much larger Moghesian Clans. In some parts of the Hegemony, a practice known as a 'Git Together' has taken root. Regional clans will arrange for dances to be held, in which all clans bring their respective family members for a night of celebration, and most importantly, the dance. The Dance is a ceremony in which young individuals will be pared with a partner they have feelings for, and the two will proceed to dance in time to music, until they fall in love. This practice is essential due to the small sizes of the clans, who survive on interpersonal relationships and local alliances.
The Twenty-First District is the most important in the Northern Hegemony. It contains the city of [CITY NAME], the de fact northern capital. The swamp and marshlands of the bayou have not stopped the Unathi from settling the area, who travel across the region on boats.
Government
The Ssaema is the council of fifteen elders, chosen from among the districts of the Hegemony. They handle all internal and external disputes, settle issues and debates, and administrate the land. The Ssaema gather to handle government affairs in the 7th District, in the city of [CITY NAME]. The Hegemony does not have a capital city, placing equal value on all districts. Instead, they convene at the Karahassnaa, the ceremonial speaking house. Built in a traditional style, reminiscent of the Moghes Hegemony, it was built to serve as a meeting and gathering hall for the Clans, and the place where the Ssaema may govern from. The Tersnathi also enjoy a great deal of solidarity with the Tersten people. The arrival of the first migrants is celebrated as a holiday among both the Tersten and Unathi people, with a celebration held in Tersten City and Nevada. The festival, taking place over a week, is a celebration of Unathi and Tersten culture, cuisine, and music. It not only celebrates their differences, but also their similarities, taking pride in their shared appreciation of Tersten.Districts
The Twenty-Three Districts of the Tersten Hegemony correspond to the various clans and others that reside within the Hegemony.Southern Hegemony
The Southern Hegemony is the largest, and most important part of the Hegemony. It is from here that the majority of Clans reside, and where the Ssaema assemble in the Karahassnaa. The majority of the Southern Hegemony is located in the Onooga Basin, and is a lowlying desert region. The Sixth and Seventh Districts contain the two Bassta Lakes, where most water in the south is drawn from. This extends up to the Hild River, which denotes the border between the Hegemony and the Federal Province of Mediolama.- The First District is an administrative region in the Human city of Bishen. It serves as a place for the Federal Government and the Hegemony to convene, and is considered to be akin to an embassy for the Hegemony and the rest of Tersten.
- The Second District is located on the border between the Onooga Basin and the Weissetal Republic. The Second District is also home to the Great Caves of the White Valley. The Great Caves are enlarged caverns capable of supporting life, having been expanded by the Hegemony, and now a minor route into and out of the region.
- The Seventh District is one of the most populated districts, and is home to the city of [CITY NAME], and the Karahassnaa. It is from here that the Hegemony governs daily affairs.
- The Nineteenth District is home to the town of Fossilmouth. Fossilmouth was originally founded by human settlers to the region, before being abandoned during the Great Revolution. It was later re-discovered, and resettled by the Unathi. Some humans have returned to the town, being home to the Hegemony's few joint Human-Unathi settlements.
Northern Hegemony
The Northern Hegemony is responsible for the four districts located deep within the Grand Tersten Bayou. This is a newly created region, with only their cultural ties to bind them.History
In 45 PC (2280), the People's Republic of Lordania collapsed. It had previously governed over the entire Lordanian Cluster, with the Tersten State being its puppet government on Tersten. It collapsed following years of internal revolution, which on Tersten was known as the Great Revolution. This led to a time known through the Cluster as the Interregnum, though on Tersten, it is better known as the Tersten Golden Age. When Sol arrived in the region in 48 PC (2283), The Republic of Tersten became a signatory of the Sol-Lordania Migration Treaty. Though it began slowly at first, the first Unathi arrived in 50 PC (2285) to fill holes in Tersten's workforce. The Tersten Government welcomed them with open arms as part of its workforce, which had been devastated during the Revolution. The provide services in engineering, sciences, health and social care, industrial work, and the police force. At first, many of these arrivals were brought to Tersten via the South Harelstone Spaceport, and sent to live in the various cities of Yukela. There were no Unathi settlements between 50 and 53 PC, with Unathi living in scattered communities. In an effort to alleviate the potential issues, the federal government allocated a region of land previously unsettled to become home to the Tersnathi's regional government. The Onooga Basin was chosen specifically because it was both unsettled, and not inhospitable to life. While it has hot days and cold nights, with a semi-arid climate, the Unathi have faced much worse on Moghes, and what would be considered uncomfortable to a Human would be perfectly liveable to a Unathi. It is important to note that no Unathi was forced to move to the Hegemony, and that many still live in the cities of Yukela and across Tersten. The the Tersnathi enjoy a warm and friendly reception from the Tersten Humans, they have suffered in their relations with Moghes. To some Moghes-born Unathi, the Tersnathi have abandoned their homeworld, and those who are born on Tersten are not 'true Unathi'. They see the Tersnathi and its Government as betrayals to the superiority of the Moghes Hegemony and their ideals. It is important to note that this is not a universal view, and a lot of Unathi that have left Moghes see the Tersnathi as a good thing, becoming more spread out in the galaxy. There is an ideal that one day Unathi will be recognised as political equals to the Humans, and some members of the Tersnathi see themselves as the first diplomats intent on making that a reality.
