The Imperium Valianum, also known as the Valian Empire, was a short-lived despotic state led by the former Governor-General of Valian, Thalia Bowers, Thalia Bowers. It was founded in 44 PC following the death of Leonard Percy and the ensuing collapse of the People's Republic of Lordania.

The Empire lasted until 48 PC, when it collapsed due to internal struggles and a renewed attack by the Tersten Army. It is considered an Empire-in-name-only. Most historians regard the Imperium Valianum as a "Warlord State with Imperial Trappings".
The Empire was ruled directly by Bowers from the Imperial Palace, the former Governor's Mansion in Shank. Under the Imperium Valianum, the Valianic Pollution Crisis was left unchecked, with knowledge inside the state heavily surpressed, leading to hundreds of people migrating into the cities of Shank and Peace Valley. It was unable to dedicate any funds towards the needs of its citizens, with every single aspect of the state focused entirely on military activities, with society structured like an army, with a rigid hierarchy. Countless peoples within the Imperium refused to submit, and they received support from the Tersten Resistance to continue the fight against tyranny and the Imperium. Economic collapse, combined with widespread unrest eventually led to the collapse of the Empire, with Bowers dying in the Battle of Bukwiza in late 47 PC. Her death was the final nail in the coffin for the Empire, which fell apart when the Tersten Army began a new offensive through the Mandara Grassland.
The Empire is now considered a relic of the past, with its flags and insignias banned throughout the Valian region. Still, there are a few, who in the absence of having lived under the Imperium, have begun to idolize a romanticised image of it. These Pro-Empire groups almost always have ties to pro-Unitarian groups, and are often under watch by local officials.

History

The Imperium Valianum traces its origins back to the Tersten State, which governed the entire planet in the name of the People's Republic of Lordania. The State was administered by various Governor-Generals, of which Thalia Bowers was the Governor-General of Valian, an expansive region in North Tersten formerly under the control of the now-subjugated Moore Republic. When the Great Revolution swept the world, it was largely repelled under Bowers' military leadership, who defied orders to surrender, instead establishing herself as the head of the independent Valian State.
Not much changed at first, the regime still as focused on its industrial and military base than any form of political representation. But with any oversight from above now removed, it didn't take long for Bowers to grant loyal individuals, officers, and their families land and power over large territories, preferring not to rule directly, but reap all the benefits. With a nobility forming, she quickly used their power to declare herself Empress of the Valian Empire.
