Aresii
Aresii is the name of the language spoken by the Aresians, including Upper Lordanian, and Areso-Terstener ethnicities. It is named after the Aresian Peoples, who settled Mars, where Old Aresii developed from Pre-Spacer languages, most the most predominant being the 'Common Tongues of Earth', roughly nine languages that were declared 'working languages' by the Terran Commonwealth, the first unified government of Earth. For a brief time, Old Aresii was the dominant language spoken on Mars, until it was overtaken by Standard Martian Olympian.
Aresii has developed over more than 200 years, travelling with the Aresians to Lordania, becoming the dominant language of New Ares, and then spreading across the Cluster, arriving on Tersten during the Penal Era. On Tersten, this is knownn as Old Aresii, which never became a dominant language, though it was the primary language of the Pinascimate Penal Authority. Middle Aresii developed under the rule of the People's Republic of Lordania, where many aspects of foreign influences were pruned and removed by force, with more than 60 dictionaries being released in the 20 years of PRL rule, attempting to 'purify' their language. As a result, many loanwords were replaced with entirely new creation. Over 6000 new words were created, before the collapse of the People's Republic brought about the end of the xenophobic language shift. Modern Aresii has taken place over the past 30 years, re-borrowing words from incoming Solar Languages, and diversifying into unique dialects, often incorporating aspects of other regional languages. Today, there are more than seven distinct Aresii dialects, with the most prominent on Tersten being Huángjīn Aresian, spoken by the Aresian Recluse. It has differing levels of mutual intelligibility with Modern Standard Aresian, spoken by New Ares in Lordania.
