With a quick movement, Kel heaved himself to his feet, the tiredness of his limbs blown away. His consciousness reached for his own magical power in his body and channeled it into his legs. A deep breath, immediately followed by a powerful leap that propelled him to the roof of the tavern. He twitched as he landed while the magical energy spread over his body again and he had to slow down the jump with the weakened muscles of his legs.

General

The basis for any form of energetic manipulation is the need to be able to perceive energies at all. This requires a so-called Tymidian-Mutation, i.e. the alteration of an area of the brain that is responsible for the perception of all types of energy. Once this mutation has taken place, the tymidian, which is actually only the size of a thumb, expands as a thin network partly over the entire body and links up with another sense in the brain. This links the ability to perceive all energies to this sense and, in rare cases, to several senses.

Basics of energetic perception

The basis for the perception of energies is that energies in their natural form can only be perceived by those who have a mutated tymidian. This natural form means that the energy is not willfully manipulated by any person or being. If someone has such a mutation, they can try to consciously perceive the energetic structure of the world around them. There are only a few for whom the perception of energies is a permanently active state, but in the vast majority of cases an almost meditative state is necessary in order to recognize the composition of the energies either by tasting, hearing, smelling, feeling or seeing.

In this state, a number of characteristics can be recognized, such as whether close people and living beings have strange or changed energies in their system, whether they are currently actively manipulating energies in their body, whether objects have energetic properties, whether energies with high mutation potential exist in the environment and other deviations from the "usual" energetic ratios.

Basics of energetic manipulation

Anyone who perceives energies can basically manipulate at least one of them. Once sensed, a being learns almost instinctively to change this perceived feeling and to manipulate its own type of energy accordingly. The manipulation of energy can basically be divided into several types, whereby a distinction is first made between raw, fine and purpose manipulation.

Raw manipulation

Raw manipulation refers to the use of energy in its crudest form, such as discharging a projectile of life energy from one's own body. This projectile is simply fired, neither changing its shape extensively nor giving it any special properties. In principle, such abilities are invisible, but can be recognized through conscious energetic perception, although this is only of limited use due to the short-lived nature of such manipulations. Manipulated energy is always more short-lived than natural forms of energy and raw manipulations in particular decay within a few seconds.

Fine manipulation

Fine manipulation is the enhancement of raw manipulation. Here, energy is still used in a "pure" form, simply discharged from the body, but it is used much more precisely, which means, for example, that the density of the energy is deliberately changed. This can increase the distance a projectile can travel or its penetrating power. In this form, complex shapes made of energy are possible, but apart from pure damage, the energy cannot do very much. In contrast to raw manipulation, energy becomes visible above a certain density, even for those who do not have a mutated tymidian.

Purpose manipulation

Purpose manipulations are the most complicated, albeit most versatile, forms of energetic manipulation. They refer to the use of an energy according to its cosmic purpose. Life energy, for example, moves with the movements of the body and condenses in the fist when struck. If the energy is deliberately manipulated to amplify a punch beyond the normal level, this is referred to as manipulation for a specific purpose. However, the same also applies to infiltrating an enemy mind with mind Energy, casting a spell with magical energy or the summoning of an astral copy by astral energy. Purpose manipulations will generally be visible if they work outside of one's own body, but can be perceived by the energetic sense if they work internally.

Furthermore, a distinction is made within the manipulation of energies as to whether they are discharged in the form of pure energy or whether the process of matter conversion is applied to the manipulation in full or in part. A distinction is made between pure energy, partial energy and full matter manipulation.

Pure energy

In the vast majority of cases used in combination with raw manipulation, energy is released in its pure form. It is usually invisible, has a short lifespan and has no special properties. Pure energy manipulations are considered to be particularly simple, but also have no extraordinary effects or abilities.

Partial energy

As an extension of pure energy manipulation, partial energy manipulation converts a small amount of energy into matter. The standard ratio of matter to energy is 25/75. As a result, the manipulated energy gains both longevity and penetrating power. Partial energy manipulation counts as precise manipulation of energy and can therefore only be used as part of a fine manipulation.

Full matter

The complete transformation of the utilized energy into matter means that both aspects are set in a 50/50 ratio, whereby they correspond to the standards of their environment and are thus basically indistinguishable from the ordinary existences around them. In this state, the energy only decays according to ordinary standards. A stone created in this way, for example, would be indistinguishable from another stone created naturally.

Example of energetic manipulation

In order to differentiate between the manipulations mentioned so far, they will be considered here using an example, namely the manipulation of natural energy of the type fire. In the form of a raw manipulation, the corresponding energy would be released from the hand as a projectile. Its strength results from the energy invested, the physical movement that dictates the movement of the projectile and the natural fluctuations in energetic pressure. Although it is composed of fire natural energy, the projectile has no heat or the like and is invisible due to its nature as a pure energy manipulation.

As an extension of this application, the same projectile can also be changed in shape, for example in a crescent form. This is referred to as fine manipulation or forging of energy. This gives the energy properties such as "sharpness", the ability to cut other energies or "protection", i.e. to ward off other influences. Generally speaking, more complex forms can carry more energy, which increases the density and therefore the strength of the ability. Properties such as "sharpness" are only granted in a basic way and the strength or intensity of this property increases with the density of the energy used. When this manipulation reaches a certain level, the energy automatically becomes visible.

In principle, such fine manipulations can also be used as partial energy manipulations or as full matter manipulations. In the above example, using a projectile that has been partially converted into matter would give it the properties of fire, meaning it would emit heat and be able to burn enemies. The intensity of this heat and flames would increase in the case of a full matter conversion. A distinction must also be made here as to how exactly the damage caused manifests itself. The more matter conversion takes place, the more damage is done to the material body instead of the target's energetic body.

The next stage, purpose Manipulation, on the other hand, can be used as pure energy, partial energy or full matter. Here, the fire nature energy is used according to its purpose. This means, for example, that a purenergy projectile is discharged without affecting its shape in any way, but which is given "heat". Basically, this corresponds to the properties of fine manipulation with the addition that certain properties are possible according to the respective energy that would not be possible with other energies.

In the sense of purpose manipulation, energy is always visible, but appears in a transparent form. However, purpose manipulation also offers the most diverse possibilities. Create a spark with a flick, heat your own body, manipulate your own blood so that it is set on fire when it leaves your body, or see other people's body heat and signatures of heat with your eyes.

Within the energies, magic forms a special form in the aspect of purpose manipulation. Magic itself, or rather magical energy, has a kind of inner self-understanding that refers to the reality of the user. For example, fire would usually be associated with heat, but if a person were convinced enough that flames were cold, they could also create cold flames. Furthermore, this understanding can also change and be significantly altered by emotions in particular. This is particularly well known in the field of fire magic, where some mages have deliberately developed black flames that hurt the wearer themselves, but have tremendous destructive power

The manipulation of energy to strengthen one's own body is a widespread practice within all forms of manipulation. They are classified as either fine manipulation or manipulation for a specific purpose. Such changes in the body become visible at a certain intensity, but rather as a kind of flickering depending on where the energy is applied, but for ordinary people it can be recognized through focused energetic perception.

Sensory associations of the energies

Every person is different, yet there is a predominant way of perceiving the different energies. Each energy is already associated with a certain type of seeing, hearing, smelling, feeling and tasting. However, significant fluctuations can occur. The emotional background of the manipulation can significantly change the perception of the energy. For example, anger and hatred can make an energy more "biting", while love would make the energy "milder".

Life energy

Life energy normally has a greenish color, is associated with a rushing sound for most people, has an odor similar to a person's body (often including sweat and the like), feels pulsating and warm like a heartbeat, and tastes salty.

Mind energy

Mind Energy is normally black in color, has a rather muffled sound and a musty smell. The feeling usually associated with it is reminiscent of foreign breath on the skin, while the taste is usually quite bitter.

Nature energy

Nature energy is particularly interesting due to its various forms. It always looks as if it has a certain silver tone, mixed with different colors according to the element. It sounds a little like music consisting of drumming mixed with other sounds. Its smell is the most differentiated, reminiscent of the open sea or hot earth. It feels a little like goose bumps, but with fire, for example, it seems to be warm. In any case, however, natural energy tastes of spiciness of varying intensity.

Astral energy

Astral energy appears in a violet color with white speckles on it, making it reminiscent of a night sky. It has no real sound, but expresses itself through a silence that seems to overlay real sounds. Likewise, it erases other odors and feels like nothing, just as it masks foreign tastes vanish.

Magical energy

Magical energy is usually blue in color. It is reminiscent of a shrill sound and smells strongly artificial and burning. It feels like electricity, a kind of tension in the air and tastes sweet.

Holy Energy

Holy energy has a white coloration and is reminiscent of the sound of bells . It smells of fresh laundry and feels a little oppressive. Its taste is usually described as sour.

Demon Energy

Although quite rare and seldom seen, demon energy is red in color to most people. Its sounds resemble those of magic, but are even shriller and higher pitched. It smells of sulphur and creates a feeling of alternating heat and cold on the skin. Its taste is reminiscent of spoiled food.

Battle Between Empowered Ones

The battle between those who call supernatural powers their own is a complex affair that is rarely decided by who can unleash more raw energy. Aspects such as the total amount of energy available, the energy that can be released in one go, which energies are used, the ability to condense it, the ability to give it properties, magical secondary or tertiary properties, what purpose manipulations are possible, all these factors can have a significant influence on the outcome of a supernatural battle.

If you want to win such battles, you have to be tricky, inventive in the possibilities you are given. Some underestimated fighters have been able to defeat true titans simply by skillfully applying their abilities and unexpected combinations of possibilities.
