Vermentino Run

The Vermentino Run is a long valley in eastern Vodacce that runs along the border with Ruskovich. Filled with rich farmland, this area has provided most of Vodacce's wealth. It's common for merchant caravans to travel the Run down to the city of Kastania on the end of the Valor Sea, picking up food and ore from the mines in the area, or starting in Kastania and heading into Eisen.   In recent years, bandits have taken camp in the hills of the Vermentino Run to attack merchant caravans, while leaving the farmsteads alone. The nobility of the area suspect that the bandits have support among the farmsteads, but it's never been proven.

History

Rumors and Tales:   • Food from the farmlands isn't the only thing this region offers. It is also famous for its many wine vineyards. The vineyards are owned by various families, each with their own recipe for making wine. Wine tasting events are held often, especially when a new vintage of wine is being released.   • Many famous chefs and gourmands have come from this area. Several have become famous all across Europa. Names such as Emilio Voltorre, Sabina Carragia, and Gramb Lightfoot are known even in places as far away as Vespen and Avalon.   • Local farmers will often work with their neighbors for mutual profit, as well as free sharing of foods between each other.   • The name of the leader of the bandits in the area is a closely kept secret. Local stories paint them as a hero, to the chagrin of the authorities.   • This region is one of several in Europa that participates in equestrian sports and dog shows. The largest annual dog or equestrian shows are hosted in different cities each year, and there are always professional breeders and riders from Vermentino at these shows.   • On top of regular bandits, rogue groups of kobolds have been known to try and sneak onto vineyard properties to swipe a few baskets of grapes and bottles of wine. It's seen as more of an annoyance rather than an overwhelming threat by vineyard owners.
