Tower of Ampheres
Purpose / Function
To protect the City of Ampheres from attacks that could come from the sea, from land or from the air. The Tower can emit rays of light to guide ships - which act as the spell Sunray (Unearthed Arcana P45) against enemies when the beam strikes them.
Secondary Uses
The Tower acts as Ampheres personal Mage Tower and in addition the tower can act as a Gate creator allowing individuals to be Gated anywhere that Ampheres wishes, and teleported to any part of the Atlantean Continent.Population Perspective
The population of Ampheres consider the tower to be a blessing on their community and have long presented the idea that the Tower is a Death Ray tower to any who would listen. The tower can indeed cause death but not instantly in the way that the community believes. The belief is now so strong that many criminals refuse to commit crimes in the city in fear of the Tower, and the City Watch has grown lax in their approach as a result of this over-reliance.Lighthouse Effectiveness
The Lighthouse function of the tower is highly effective, giving all ships a 95% chance of missing all obstructions at night. The main purpose of the tower is to provide ships with beacon of yellow and orange light (that differs from the lightning storms to the south west) to ensure that their courses miss the Lightning Arc field that strikes the ocean in that area.Architecture
The tower is said to be modeled on images of a tower seen by Ampheres in a vision whilst Chronos was sick during his fall in the Titanomarchy. The result was the creation of the lighthouse - which some think of as the source of the lightning used within the City for it's lighting.
The Tower has a square base, a rectangular extension upwards, and a hexagonal section above this, topped with a circular mini tower at the top. It is said that the tower symbolises Humanity, Dwarves and the Elves at the top.
