DunMornay

Government

Much like the rest of Sutheria, DunMornay has divided the city into regions overseen by a notable individual. Unlike other positions in Sutheria, these individuals are elected every three years, and are then responsible for collecting the kings taxes (a percentage of which is returned to the region), as well as maintaining order and public works. The only things not overseen by the managers of the boroughs are the sewers and the roads.

Each borough has its own watch, bt the laws are made by thr eking and trials held near the temple of Janus.

The burgomeisters can accept donations and raise funds to increase the revenue for public works or donate their own wealth (if they have any) in addition to the money budgeted by the crown.

The burgomeisters also liaise with the procurator, who acts for the palace and royal family. The current procurator is a member of Duke Mornay's household, which has led to some conflicts between the city and the duke.

Industry & Trade

Dun Mornay is a city of trade; its central location and safe harbour on the Sea of Souls make it ideally suited for shipments coming from all points of the compass. Goods flow in to the Sutherian capital from the plains to the north and west, and from the forests to the east. More exotic goods arrive from foreign ports and almost any item can be found in Dun Mornay if you look hard enough - or are willing to pay the right price. That being said, most goods hail from Sutheria and its immediate surrounds, with Dun Mornay being a stopping point for the goods before they are shipped off to their final destinations.

The more exotic goods - such as spices, intricate clockwork, and rare produce - arrive infrequently but in bulk, shipped in by foreign vessels across the oceans to charge exorbitant prices to those who desperately need their goods.

A burgeoning manufacturing district has sprung up, and there are a number of factories producing goods to ship to elsewhere in the world. This has led to an influx of people and capital into the city, making Dun Mornay's own development blossom.

Drawing on the nation at its back, the city does not rely on the trade for more exotic locales, and often the produce made in Sutheria goes no further than the tables of the those in the city.
