When the world was made, the gods looked at it and saw that it had beauty, but it was a cold and empty beauty. The gods spoke together and joined their powers to create the creatures that would inhabit this world. Each was chosen to represent the aspects of the world that the gods had brought forth, and would thus maintain a balance in nature.

The Creatures of the Earth were shaped first - born of the mountains, they strode across the world and all trembled at their passage.

The Creatures of the Air were made to look about themselves, and they marvelled at the world around them, their minds creating many wonders that others could not. They sought out secrets, and always looked up, their imaginations building dreams into reality.

The Creatures of the Water were made in that image - fluid and mercurial. None were as swift of temper or as fleet of foot, and their laughter was that of babbling brooks, but their passion was like the sea in a storm.

The Creatures of the Fire burned with a passion and an energy that none could match. Their fury was that of flame and destruction, and their desires were as quick and burning as wildfire.

The Creatures of the Light were numerous and multi-hued, and sunlight glinted off them as they walked. They fed off the sun, and spread across the world like the dawn spreads across the land.

The Creatures of the Dark were made in darkness, and that is where they preferred to dwell, in the hidden places of the world. Even when they ventured forth, their hearts lay in the dark where they were born.

The Creatures of Life were merry and many, and they enjoyed everything the world gave them. Food they had, and drink, and joy was all they sought.

The Creatures of Death were made to die, alone or in numbers. Where they went, death followed, brought by the them and caused by them. They fled their fates, and made others embrace it.

These were the Creatures made by the gods, to represent the aspects of the world they were to inhabit. But when the Godstorm came, many more creatures were needed to fight the wars of the gods, and more creatures came about. Some were drawn from other realms, others were twisted from the the beasts and peoples that already walked Terniata. By the end of the Godstorm, there were many more creatures than the Eight had made, and all had intermingled. The Creatures of the Eight no longer knew what they were, and as the gods withdrew, they lost the ways to tell their creations what they needed to know.
