Elden Ones of the Citadels
Long before the rise of the Imorean Empire, before the first histories were scratched into clay or bark, there existed a people now called the Elden Ones. Little is known of them - only that their skeletons do not match any living race, and that their great citadels, carved from stone harder than iron, lie buried deep in ravines, sinkholes, and forgotten mountain roots.
Their ruins are strange, silent places, where no animals tread and no flame burns clean. Inscriptions along their black stone walls speak of a desire to shed the weight of flesh, to flee the world itself and become as thought or light. Some claim the air near these places still carries voices, whispering words known by any living tongue.
Scholars argue whether they were a lost race, early gods, or something in between. The Church of Holy Law urges caution and silence. But treasure-seekers, fools, and sorcerers still delve into their ruins, hoping to learn what the Elden Ones discovered… and whether it worked.
