Elden Ones

The beings known as the Elden Ones are believed to be an extinct species, predating all recorded history. Their skeletal remains, unearthed from the deepest layers of ruined citadels and collapsed ravines, are tall, elongated, and inhuman, with delicate bone structures, extended craniums, and ribs like latticework. They do not match elves, men, dwarves, or any known creature of the world.

Despite their alien form, their ruins reveal a people of immense intelligence and purpose. Inscriptions and artifact-lore suggest they were not content to remain flesh - they sought to transcend the material world, to abandon the burdens of mortality and time. Whether they succeeded is unknown.

Today, no Elden Ones are known to exist. Some scholars believe they withered away, others that they entered another plane of existence, or perhaps were unmade by their own ambition. The Church of Holy Law classifies their study as dangerous speculation, and the few remains kept in academic circles are quietly locked away, never displayed.
