The Worcesters Organization in Tellus | World Anvil

The Worcesters

The political faction of the Cerulean Church of Umberlee. They are a paternal, authoritarian organization, led by the fanatical Gaius Töphim of Cerulo.
The Worcesters Political Platform:
  1. Religious Freedom and Tolerance: Upholding the principle of religious freedom, the Worcesters advocate for the right of all citizens to practice their faith without fear of discrimination or persecution, as long as that faith is placed in Umberlee.   2. Preservation of Tradition: The party is committed to preserving and promoting the traditional beliefs and rituals of the Cerulean Empire, including the exclusive worship of Umberlee, the sea goddess.   3. Environmental Stewardship: The party recognizes the sacred connection between the merfolk and the ocean. They are ordered to be guardians of the sea, advocating for responsible and sustainable environmental policies to protect the empire's underwater realm, or risk the wrath of Umberlee.   4. Social Welfare: The Cerulean Faithful Party emphasizes compassion and solidarity within society. They advocate for programs and initiatives that support the welfare of all merfolk, especially the most vulnerable. To promote and support this initiative, they eliminate the most vulnerable on a regular basis.   5. Education and Cultural Heritage: Promoting education about the empire's cultural heritage and religious traditions is a priority. The party supports initiatives to ensure that merfolk children learn about their proper history, faith, and the traditional values of Umberlee.   6. Diplomacy and Harmony: The party is dedicated to maintaining peaceful relations with neighboring underwater civilizations and fostering cooperation and cultural exchange to enhance mutual understanding and harmony. To that end, the party deploys troops as necessary.   7. Oceanic Prosperity: To ensure the economic well-being of the empire, the Worcesters encourage responsible marine resource management, and the promotion of trade with other underwater realms, by force if necessary.   8. Cultural Exchange: The party supports cultural exchange programs with other merfolk clans and underwater societies to foster unity and strengthen ties between diverse communities. It makes the inevitable assimilation much easier in the long run.   9. Protection of Sacred Sites: The Worcesters are committed to the protection and preservation of sacred underwater sites and temples dedicated to Umberlee. We believe these sites are integral to the spiritual identity of the empire, and therefore feed the kraken living there with appropriate sacrifices regularly...so sayeth Umberlee, amen.   10. Pilgrimage and Spiritual Journeys: The party advocates for the right of merfolk to undertake pilgrimages and spiritual journeys to significant religious sites and places of worship within the trench. To that end, we have introduced legislation compelling mandatory pilrimages to the various sacred sites around The Cerulean Trench.   11. Social Cohesion: The Worcesters emphasize the importance of social cohesion and mutual support within merfolk society, aiming to strengthen the bonds that unite the empire. They therefore discourage fashion, makeup, or social statements of any kind, rather mercilessly.

Structure

This organization is a paternal, seniority based pyramid, for the most part, with several very talented exceptions often rising through the ranks even more quickly.

Culture

The Worcesters wholeheartedly believe that if you are not one of them, you are an "other". And "others" are not good; merely useful idiots.

Public Agenda

To rescue the foolhardy Aquans of The Cerulean Empire from their own sinful ways. They would force the public back into line.

Military

The Worcesters can call upon an army of merfolk and sea spawn.

So sayeth the sea, amen.
