The Ravenwood Donnybrook Military Conflict in Tellus | World Anvil

The Ravenwood Donnybrook

On eleven Juno, 5002NG, The citizens of Ravenwood witnessed the Vlüdbàyne terrorizing, and then harvesting adrenochrome from, a young man with intellectual challenges, before feeding on him as vampires do. This heinous act was not carried out in the safety of Rolfe Tower's basement levels, but out in the Ravenwood itself.   Unfortunately for them, it was witnessed by the young man's friends, who had all hidden in a completely innocuous game of hide and seek. They all saw the Vlüdbayne squad of five attack their friend. They all witnessed the carnage, and they all witnessed the cover up afterwards. The guilty Vlüdbayne however, were so haughty that they never even thought to search the area for witnesses. They just assumed the young man was out in the forest alone, despite all of the warnings and stories that they, the Vlüdbayne themselves, had spread throughout Ravenwood.   The young man's friends returned to Ravenwood, shaken to their core, and raised up out of their depressive state by adrenaline and rage. It was enough to shock their parents out of their own torpor, and the Vlüdbayne squad was intercepted by a mob of torch wielding locals, and executed. The Vlüdbayne, being vampires, were (of course) difficult to kill, but the regions folklore was rife with vampire stories, and the Vlüdbayne were vanquished in a bloody example of overkill that enraged the agents of Rolfe  The Vlüdbàyne gathered together in Rolfe Tower en masse, drinking large amounts of Blue Blood or straight Blue Sanguine. And, after enough of the liquid courage, the thugs turned, and, as one, attacked the hamlets.   It was a massacre.   The population capitulated immediately.

The Conflict

Prelude

The terrorization and harvesting of a simple lad from Ravenwood out in the forest.

Deployment

The vampires left Rolfe Tower and fanned out to the northwest, taking the path of least resistance. The souteast section of the city, the opposite side of the river, escaped completely unscathed.

Battlefield

Northwest Ravenwood. Many citizens were turned, that night, into slaves for the waning population of the mines.

Conditions

It was a clear night, but the Vlüdbayne summoned a desperately thick fog, and blinding flashes of lighting followed by utter black spells.

The Engagement

The Vlüdbayne stalked their prey, many of whom were sleeping.   It was a massacre.

Outcome

The population of Ravenwood was decimated that night, literally, in that one in ten people were either killed outright or turned to vampires. The salt and emerald mines experienced an influx of new workers.

Aftermath

It took a hundred years for the population to recover, and this affected the Vlüdbàyne quite a bit. Blue Sanguine became very hard to get for nearly a hundred years.

Historical Significance

It has never happened again, although it came close a couple of times.

Legacy

Every year, on 6 Juno, Ravenwood is forced to send a delegation of young people to join the Vlüdbàyne.
