Blue Sanguine Material in Tellus | World Anvil

Blue Sanguine

Derived of the blood from elves and humans combined in precise ratios, this distillate is created using a proprietary Allihn Condenser and slightly modified Kjeldahl ball. The resultant liquid is collected, drip by drip, in a six gallon glass carboy. A proprietary recipe of seven hebs and spices is added to the carboy, which is then stoppered with a hand-carved carved marrowbone and sealed using blood-infused beeswax. It is agitated for eight hours, then placed in a cave for eighty eight days.   Straining the alcohol into another carboy, the result will vary slightly, but is always somewhere very close to the five gallon mark. The liquid, at this point, is a deep ruby red, and a wonderful sipping drink in its own right, called Noble Wine. It is very popular among the Vlüdbàyne of Rolfe. In fact, purists will only drink Noble Wine out of special vessels that allow their nose to take in the bouquet of the liquor as they sip it; some few of the Vlüdbayne are even able to tell which batch any particular glass comes from.   But the true magic comes in when Noble Wine is distilled once again. Using a water bath (it's an Allihn Condenser, after all), the liquid is slowly reduced to two separate products; Noble Brandy, and Blue Sanguine. Technically the dregs and leftovers, the deep blue paste is heated over low fire until it liquifies, and is infused with wormwood for eighty eight days. It must remain at a constant temperature the entire time.    This drink is technically a potion for vampires. It will not only restore health and remove unwanted effects, but it also imparts a sense of well being and good cheer. A feeling of warmth; almost love. A feeling of connection with the world such as they can no longer feel naturally. A feeling not a single vampire believes they can even experience, until they do. It is a life changing experience, for vampires. Many have their minds opened by the drug, and grow to see humans and elves as more than just chattel. More than just food. They have grown to see them as friends.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Blue Sanguine is a viscous blue fluid with an aromatic bouquet. Much like wax, the cooler it gets the firmer it gets.

Physical & Chemical Properties

It is served at 99°F

Compounds

It is used as the base for a drink called a Blue Blood, which is:
  • 2 oz. Blue Sanguine, at temperature. Pour into a rocks glass with a smooth warmth stone.
  • 1 oz. fresh adrenochrome, muddled with spearmint leaves
  • Float .5 oz. of creme liquor over the top. Note the roiling mass of the liquor.
  • Serve with a lemon twist and sprif of fresh spearmint in a copper mug.
This is, quite simply, the most popular drink in Rolfe Tower.

Geology & Geography

It is served worldwide, thanks to a thriving black market and Count Rolfe Rodrigo Schartenheiney the IV's shady connections outside of the the Ravenwood.

Origin & Source

As far as anyone knows, and confirmed by the man himself, the drink was invented by Count Rolfe Rodrigo Schartenheiney the IV.

Life & Expiration

Kept within a glass container, or some other contrivance that would effectively keep air away from it, it can last indefinitely. Just warm it up, and bang! Blood sucker's delight. Were it to be left out in the cold, open air, however, it volatizes within three days.

History & Usage

History

Created by Count Rolfe Rodrigo Schartenheiney the IV sometime in the late 3000NGs, tradition and pomp surrounding its usage and enjoyment have grown to the point of ritual, in some cases. Some batches of Blue Sanguine are only properly enjoyed while smoking cigars from specific islands in The Warmwind Sea. Other vintages are best sipped through bone straws.    The count keeps a reserve of one hundred bottles of each vintage for as long as he can, although his favorites have, of course, gone empty over the last thousand years.

Discovery

It is said that Asmodeus himself taught the Count the recipe.

Everyday use

It is so prevalent that most of the Vlüdbàyne begin their day with a nice Blue Blood.

Cultural Significance and Usage

There is such a cultural saturation within the Vlüdbàyne that the vampires are quite dependent on it for any number of social and personal situations. Getting a divorce? Have a Blue Blood. Getting married? Straight up Blue Sanguine for you, buddy!

Industrial Use

It powers the workes in the Count's mines, who are some the Vlüdbàyne that did not make the cut. Without a constant supply of the liquor, the workforce would never survive the intese labor. As it is, even these vampires have only a five to seven year life expectancy once they are assigned to the mines.

Refinement

It is made, day and night, within the Rolfe Tower. For whatever reason, it can only be brewed six gallons at a time, or it separates in plasmas.

Manufacturing & Products

Every single type of ingestible there is has become infused with the substance; notably, the frosting they use for celbration cakes is full of the stuff, as it acts as a great room temperature stabilizer.

Byproducts & Sideproducts

Noble Wine

Hazards

It is, perhaps, the most addictive substance possible for a vampire.

Distribution

Trade & Market

There is only a very limited market for this rare delight.

Storage

It must be stored in glass, out of sunlight, in a cool area. Underground seems to work the best.

Law & Regulation

It is expressly illegal anywhere within Pax.
