The Black Apostle

The Black Apostle is one of the elite Diezen mechans within Angor's Diezens, serving as both a potent frontline combatant and the organization's twisted spiritual guide. Named for his dark paint and preaching murder for murder's sake, he tends to the flocks of Diezen Cultists that serve the Diezens rather than their mechan soldiers. With a deep and unusually reassuring voice he commands these cultists to do unspeakable acts of violence and carnage in the name of his master, Angor. Those that disappoint him can expect to meet their own ends on the blades of his oversized hands. Utterly devoted and without mercy, The Black Apostle is feared throughout Tarsis as a herald of death and destruction.

Physical Description

Body Features

In addition to being larger than a standard Diezen mechan, The Black Apostle has several other modifications to make him stand out. His black paint is darker than the average Diezen's. His head has a fanged bull's skull built into it, including the lower jaw which he can open and close at will. His red eye displays are placed in the eye sockets of this skull, which has been shaped by maiga to take on its sinister countenance. His greaves are wider than his thighs, and his lower arms are encased in a thick spiked vambrace ending in a massive wristless hand each, with the last digits of each finger replaced with foot-long blades. Bolted to his left pectoral with a silver brooch is a Sawt-hide fur half-cape. His shoulders have shaped plates to deflect shoulder blows away from more sensitive servos. His body is coated head to toe in small glowing red runes.

Specialized Equipment

Within each palm rests a very short, silver emitter with a glowing purple core. These emitters are used to focus maiga into a corridor between two points of The Black Apostle's choosing, functionally creating portals that he or others can go through. These portals appear as swirling purple tears in reality, and he commonly rends the air with his claws to generate them. The runes across his body spell out hexes of protection, passively directing maiga across his form to redirect blows both physical and mystical. Maiguns and energy blades in particular have a hard time bypassing this layer of protection.

Mental characteristics

Accomplishments & Achievements

  • Serves as the spiritual center of the Diezens. While a role that isn't required to lead mechans, The Black Apostle championed the idea of accepting human or guhr cultists into Diezen service rather than just killing them all.
  • Can hold his own against the generals of the Altean Army in combat.
  • He serves as Angor's sounding board at times, and is not destroyed when challenging him on ideas.

Morality & Philosophy

While he shares the Diezen philosophy of "murder for murder's sake", The Black Apostle has a more nuanced take on the matter that allows for preserving lives in order to inflict further casualties later. He extols the virtues of having living soldiers, namely in the dilemma it causes the Altean Army with their preservation of life mission: do the Alteans kill the cultists to protect more lives, or do they take pains to subdue them while dealing with Diezen mechans who will gladly kill those who get captured? So long as blood flows and souls funnel into Mortemhiem, The Black Apostle and, by extension Angor, are satisfied.
