Treasury of Chetria's Children
Catalogue of Natural Creatures
Authored by the great Nerrid naturalist Rahnhopf Marcussonsonsonsonson, and published in the mid-seventh century, the Treasure of Chetria's Children is an amazing assemblage of research on the various species of creatures the reside in Tarien. Unlike many works on the natural world, the Treasury is not a tome or series of scrolls. Instead, it is a collection of small cards - perhaps the size of a Human hand. Each card has the name of a creature on the front, along with a number of odd symbols representing the various classifications developed by Rhanhopf and a large, hand drawn sketch of the creature. On the back Rahnhopf describes the creature, its habitat, lifecycle, and other ecological facts. This condensed format is remarkable - especially for a work in Nerrid - as hundreds of cards fit neatly into a small wooden crate.
Given the artistry and labor-intensive nature of its creation, only a few copies of the Treasury were ever developed and to date, only two are known to remain. One is the prize possession of the Department of Natural History at the University of Karradone while the other is thought to be deep in the archives of the Nerrid National Library.
