Tonfu
Known as the flour mill of the Flietch-ta Empire, Tonfu sits at the confluence of the Untick and Vantarkrelic rivers. The Untick's deep waters flood every spring when swollen with snowmelt, providing ample groundwater for the large tracks of potato and beet farms that surround the village. Tucked between the two great mountain ranges - the easternmost ridges of the Frosted Mountains and the southwestern edge of the Gestalt Mountains, it enjoys warmer weather and a longer growing season than the rest of the Empire and, as a result, generally has exceptional harvests. Farmers in the area have even expanded their fields to include beans and squashes. Sadly, these do not transport well and when found in markets north of Tonfu are considered an expensive delicacy.
Those same fast-moving waters of the Untick turn the numerous mills that can be found in the town, grinding potatoes, winter barley, and even wheat for flour that is shipped throughout the empire by the wagonload. This industry has made many in the town wealthy and most of the low, stone buildings boast Khadric stonework. Indeed, the import of Khadric masons has become so fashionable that even the meanest of structures displays some small token of their handiwork, even if it is limited to a small engraving around the threshold.
As the first Flind settlement that one encounters when travelling from the Merdenkal Peninsula, the village also sees it share of Elynthi trade caravans, slowly making their way through the mountains to Pash-ti, laden with cloth, porcelain, and finely made tools. These same caravans wind their way back months later, dozens of Ork and Goblin slaves trudging along behind the mostly empty wagons, bound for the Blacksteel mines of Merdenkal.
The relative wealth in the village, and its remote location, have led to a historically independent mind. While the Emperor's law is still word, there are those words that fail to reach Tonfu, the local nobles, particularly the troublesome House Chrita who claim the village as their ancestral home, proceeding with their lives according to their own set of laws. Rumors of Soulmeliti and Human slaves - a practice generally outlawed in the rest of the Empire - continue to come out of Tonfu.
