The Tragedy of Princess Leonia
Reynard's First Play
The first of Reynard's plays to be performed, The Tragedy of Princess Leonia tells the tale of young woman who, while travelling to an arranged marriage, is kidnapped by highwaymen and held for ransom. She falls in love with one of her captors who dies during a raid by her father's men to rescue her. While scholars do not consider it one his better works, it was met with wild success when it premiered in Phelandria. Like many of Reynard's plays, it touched on social issues of his day. Even now it is a favorite at the Yatian Finishing School where young women from across the Inner Seas find themselves facing similar prospects of arranged marriages.
