Landric Character in Tarien | World Anvil

Landric

The Weaver of Fate

Landric (Land-rick) is one of the first gods of Tarien. Among the followers of Landric, it is said that he was the first of the first gods, and that wove the tapestry of Tarien from pieces of other planes of existence. He is seen by her followers as a tall man in crimson robes with white, pupil-less eyes. Many consider him the most powerful of the old gods, for who but the god of fate can see what will or will not happen?

The church of Landric is quite old and highly respected is all of the human lands.

History/Relationships

Landric was among the first of the gods, and is said to have had a hand in the creation of the world itself. He decision to tie the fate of the gods to their mortal followers has made he quite unpopular with most of the other gods.

Dogma

“History is an intricate piece of cloth. Disturbing one thread can cause the entire bolt to collapse.” “Do not mourn what you cannot change…all is pre-ordained.” Landric has no written text to guide his followers; instead, his ideas are captured in a series of pictographs that they call ‘the tenets’. The tenets reinforce the ideas that are taught to his priests, and the questions that they meditate upon. These pictographs are displayed on tapestries that hang in her temples.

Church/Priesthood

Landric’s priests, or fateweavers as they are called, pray for their spells at any time during the day (but can cast no more than their daily allotment in a single 24 hour period). The church has no major holy days, but oextended services are held on the 1st of every moon.

Cathedrals dedicated to Landric exist in Geyla , Grennig, Karradone, Zennon, and of course, at the Hall of Plenty in Drythe. These large but simple buildings, solidly built from pure white granite, are capable of seating thousands. Services of Landric are typically an hour of so long, and consist of a recitation of the major tenets, followed by the presiding priest expounding upon how one of them manifests in the real world (usually by citing a historical example).
The priests of Landric typically wear white robes with colored vestments indicating church rank. Priests are often sent into the field to ‘weave the tapestry’, as the church puts it. These priests often forgo the traditional garb for more comfortable clothing, wearing only the symbol of Landric (crossed silver shuttle and bobbin) over their heart. Many of these field operatives use a military pick in battle, due to its vague similarity to a weaver’s tools.
