Kharlbhak

Founded on the heroics of Bhak Ironarms during the first invasion of Khardin in 1951 BC, the Kharlbhak are the elite guardians of the Underground Kingdom of the Children of Kharl. Swearing their lives to both the clans and Kharl, they strive to be the epitome of true Khadric worth. Protection of the undefended, justice for the unvoiced, empowering the weak are among their key ideals. Masterful in combat, resolute in their studies, and steadfast in their loyalties, members of the order are slow to anger but terrible once they know their cause is just. Nothing, including their own deaths, can block their quest once Kharl deems it righteous.

The Kharlbhak are distinct in Khadric society with their tri-braided beards. By law, no other Khadra may wear his beard in such a manner. In addition, those that have achieved sufficient rank are given leave to requisition an Adamantine weapon from the Kingdom’s Reserve. Like most Khadra, the Kharlbhak favor weapons relying on strength such as great axes, picks, and hammers. Each of these weapons is named and passed from generation to generation, the tales of its deeds in the hands of the order ready on the lips of its current wielder. For those who have achieved the highest levels enlightenment, the order makes suits of armor available. The site of Kharbhak, clad head to toe in midnight, almost rippling Adamantine, wielding a great axe and singing songs of past conquests is enough to make the wisest of foes flee before battle is even engaged.

All Kharlbhak value the welfare of the Khadric community over the needs of and individual, and as such, can often be seen as cold and uncaring. This could not be further from the truth and many Kharlbhak hold great sorrows in their hearts for the acts they have taken in defense of Kingdom and Kharl. While most take solace in the fact that Kharl has granted them the strength to take on these burdens, to make these difficult choices, so that others do not have to, a few have been known to drown their guilt in strong drink. Sadly, it is these few that are most often seen beyond the boundaries of the kingdom, leaving many in Tarien to jokingly call this noble order the Masters of Mead.
