Kelkantin

Zennonaize Scout and Folk Hero

The story of Kelkantin is one that inspires hope in the hearts of every horseman in the Zennonaize Cavalry. With roots as a serf from a northern estate, Kelkantin elected to try his luck in the army, rather than take up the plow. While he had shown some skill with horses as a child, few believed that he might rise in the ranks beyond the common charger and find service among the scouts. Fewer still believed his boasts when, one night around the fire, he told his comrades that he could sneak into Zantak's camp and slay the rebel general. The stories claim that Kelkantin had but a few shots of fermented mare's milk - just enough to fortify his courage - when he made his boast but any sane scout believes he had drained the entire skin.

The next evening, however, he made good on his boasts. Kelkantin not only snuck past enemy lines, clearing the way for the Dono's army, but he also challenged Zantack to single combat, slaying him before the battle even began to ensure a route.

His reward - a large estate on the southern shores of the Malpighien Steppes - upon which he built the now independent city of Gartcha - gives hope to every soldier that with great deeds even a serf can rise to the top of Zennonaize society.
