Though the Cinderion Spire may not have belched fire and liquid earth in recorded history, scholars from the University of Karradone
assure locals that it has, in fact, done so in the past. Their chief evidence sits perhaps three-quarters of the way up its north-facing slope where a band of rock glitters like the midnight sky just below the snowline. Known as Blackglass Bench, it is more like a massive terrace, it spans more than a hundred feet from bottom to top with a pair of sheer cliffs broken up by a flat shelf nearly sixty feet across and eighty deep.
The rock, smooth and strangely brilliant despite its black color, has shattered and cracked over the millennia into razor-like shards. Slicing through bare skin under the lightest pressure, these Bench deters wildlife of all sorts from exploring it and the cracks seem to resist seeds, making it a barren wasteland amidst the otherwise vibrant refuge of wildlife on the Island of Eldoria. Those making their livelihoods below the shelf - wardens of the Duke of Phelandria swear they have seen fires on the shelf deep in the night, though most think these tales simply come from men and women spending too much time alone in the woods.
