Jermaine Parfelle

Second Duke of Yaty

Son of Yaty's founder, Jermaine did much to bolster the faltering colony and cease the flight of its few citizens into the surrounding countryside. He stabilized the food supply by commissioning the disgraced architect Frances Chezonne to design and construct great aqueducts that brought water from the nearby Wind Wall Mountains directly in the city. The near constant flow of water fed terraced fields of wheat that turned what was a critical food shortage into a surplus. Soon Yatian bread flowed into the countryside, bolstering the fledgling farms to the south and giving them a cushion to grow and then flourish.
Enjoying the towering look of the aqueducts, Jermaine aceeded to Chezonne's request to lay the city out in a designed road plan, building wide boulevards in concentric circles to reach the top of the hill. This roadways were lined with columns and trees, giving the city its stately, almost spa-like look for which it is now famous. Unfortunately, these improvements could not keep pace with the added income that they produced in taxes and the Duchy was deeply indebt at the time of his death.
