Foljeim Lake

Named after a patron saint of Sir Kartheart, a dwarven explorer of moderate fame and prestige, whether real or myth, the explorer Foljeim Kartamac Unzil. This lake gives the region, and the entire province its name. It is seen as one of the key discoveries within the northern province, for without this ready source of a water this region could never have been settled, and the Crystal Woods would have remained an undiscovered and unutilized resource very likely even to this day. The stories within the chapters of Sir Kartheart's holy texts told by Foljeim speak of the region much as one would find it today, though scholars within such fields will note that it is there belief that the nearly two thousand years ago such things were written does begin to show its age when the lake is described versus how it is today. For in any section of scripture which talks of the lake, it speaks of a lake shaped less like it is today, an almost bean or kidney like shape, and speaks of a shape not unlike 'a mace with two heads' with 'ice squeezing its center to the east, creating an odd shape with the barest suggestion of it being two smaller lakes and a connecting canal or river." Naturally such quotes are seen as an extreme rendering of the concept, but most scholars agree the lake was likely smaller in Foljeim's time, more of it still covered entirely in ice than is today.
