Feirmecliste Duicacht

The heart of the Icevale Province, the Feirmecliste Duicacht is the most populated and most agriculturally productive region in the entire province. Indeed in regards to agricultural production, this is true in all of Suranth. The crops grown here in notable and respectable numbers are more varied than most might expect from a tundra, the geothermal currents running all throughout the region below the ground, through the volcanic subterranean hot springs and rivers keep the soil here warm enough, and the frost layer thin enough, to allow a wider selection of crops that can succeed here, though the growing season is still notably short, so that restriction still applies. Peas, carrots, shallots, onions, squash, barley, corn, blueberries, blackberries, elderberries, raspberries, potatoes, aptly named iceberg lettuce, cranberries, even a select variety of grapes, in limited numbers. There are even a limited number of orchards finding success with apple and pear trees, mostly near the edges of the Perspire Woods. As such, the region has a wealth of food security, for this also has allowed notable domestication of animals far beyond most regions. Sheep and goat herds are common, along with pig, and turkey. Cattle still present a massive logistical challenge due to their sheer food consumption needs. There are a handful of small herd cattle ranchers, but they are few and far between, normally funded and under employ, and the cattle under ownership of a local noble or wealthy financer.

Besides this food security, the region being so glut with available food means that they wield excess as an economic boon, and utilize this trade surplus well to increase the wealth and available standard of living for the regions inhabitants. The Perspire woods provide a notably abundant lumber source as well, though their are some difficulties with a local wood elf tribe in region between Bruachthoir and Slick-Bridge, and there has been some mild but....notable violence.

Geography

GEOGRAPHIC PLACES OF NOTE:

Steam Vent River-lands: This is the general name for well....the entire region east of the Perspire Woods out to the Glacial Sea, so most of the Icevale Province, and nearly all of Feirmecliste Duicacht. The region is noted for basically being an agricultural gift from the gods in a harsh and cold land, and this is because as the name might suggest, there are many volcanic springs and geysers, with rivers of steaming and boiling water flowing deep underground, the steam and heat rising though the ground, shrinking the depth of the frost layer in the region and also meaning there is no permafrost like is found all across the rest of Suranth. This natural feature however, would not make the land what it is, merely laid the foundation. That truth lies below the earth, the massive spanning system of complex aqueducts, great and massive automated pumps, and various venting tunnels and canals feeding the warm water and steam up and out into the region, along with through rivers and irrigation channels, a feat of engineering that is the only reason the Nordjeim River System is not considered one of the Ten Valarian Miracles of Modernization. The Steam Vent River-lands, specifically the Ghlas-Flow Irrigation Systems,

TOWNS/CITIES:

Bruachthoir (14361): Bruachthoir

Slick-Bridge (9274): This city gets its name from the river crossing it stands at, and the near constant fog or slight mist that rises from all about it, creating a slick and wet trip to cross any of the numerous bridges over the Ghlasin River. Besides being a river port that is notably busy, it is also along a trade route, and is home to another decently busy and large railyard. A trade city with its own growing lumber trade of course, recently there have been problems just north of town however, loggers being ambushed and left full of arrows, attempts to sabotage the rail lines and highway robbery of merchants traveling the roads. By all evidence it looks to be warlike acts from a small wood elf tribe that lives amongst the Perspire Woods. Governmental authorities in the city are refusing to take any sort of action, so rumor has it that Gillis Clarkson, a local lumber magnate, is looking for 'skilled individuals' to 'handle' a 'delicate' issue for himself and some 'concerned local business folk'.

Berrhold (10882): This city, for it is a city by any standard in the region and in Suranth, is a centralized hub for both trade for all the farm land in the region, along with being a key military and government facility for governance, protection and projection of control and law enforcement all across the River-Lands. It is a bustling busy place, though slows down notably through the winter season, it is at its busiest from midsummer right through to Mabon and even Samhain, the last harvests of the year. It is also home to a large number of breweries, wineries and distillers, along with a few new age successes, those whom make and can or bottle jams and jelly spreads from the various fruits that can be harvested and purchased here. With the new age technology of canning and proper sealing, such jellies and jams are well liked and an excellent export opportunity both domestically and abroad. A busy place all around, a busy and industrious place but with a local garrison of notable size, with moderately heavy officious and military traffic coming and going all through spring, summer and autumn, with the long winter seeing a notable and measurable reduction in such activities. Recently, as spring approaches, the local road warden and coast guard recruiters have begun to ramp up their efforts in seeking new recruits.
