Blackwell's Wrecker's Military Formation in Tariek Rough Collection | World Anvil

Blackwell's Wrecker's

Alright lads, cut em down, quick like. Leave the wee ones alive though. Grafwood said he'd pay double for some kids!"

Captain Azalanti Blackwell

Blackwell's Wrecker's are a small but notorious band of lake pirates preying upon fishermen and ferries all about Foljeim lake. A dark elf magister is counted amongst his crew, along with sixteen other men and women of various races, and himself. They are a formidable force, small enough for stealthy ambushes and lightning tactics, but with a magister among their number, large enough and deadly enough to be very dangerous to try and pick a fight with. They know their home turf, know this lake better than the few river patrol crews that work the region. They've clearly a few hidden coves and ports amongst the islands and north and east shores.

Recently however, they've taken up a new roll besides their usual plundering ways, both for food (fish) and for wealth. Recently they've taken to gathering prisoners, though none know why. In truth it is because the Wrecker Crew are no longer pirates. For the last nearly three years, they've been under direct sway of the Cult that took up residence on Fir Hallows, protecting its leader, and providing her with fresh victims for her own satiation and for....experimentation. They also are expected to guard the hideout on Fir Hallows and guard Grafwood should she flee to Fir Hallows. Their primary objective, however, is to guard and protect Liandria Velcam, whom heads up the Cult of the All Seeing, and the unholy relic she protects, that is Chill's Fang. To this effect they mobilize very quickly to assault anyone getting to close to the island, and they do so without any mercy.

Composition

Manpower

Sixteen experienced sailors and wreckers, river pirates, prodominantly humans and gnomes, but with a dwarf amongst their numbers as well. Supported by Tel'vanik Corvisies Alvindia the dark elf, whom is also a Magister of Scath. Her magics of darkness and shadow are one of their most dangerous tools and tactics. Finally of course, their Captain, one Azalanti Blackwell. A brilliant sailor, fighter, and a crack shot, the man is a deadly powder keg, known for the violent streak he has.

Equipment

Besides their small single masted sloop of course, they have a major advantage on the water, for their sloop is rigged specially, clearly made by a professional, likely paid handsomely, considering such an act would be criminal. Despite not being very big at all, in fact it is quite small, given it is only crewed by eighteen people, it also supports six cannons. The vicious eight-pounder cannons are the truimph card of these river and lake pirates, and they unleash them with abandon.

Weaponry

Besides their boat and cannon, each man and woman carries pistols or a deck-clearing blunderbuss, along with a cutlass or hatchet. They dress light, gambesons, perhaps some light gauge chain, relying less on armor unless in melee, and relying more on speed, surprise, and overwhelming firepower.

Vehicles

Single masted sloop, named Black Pike

Structure

Captain Azalanti Blackwell is in charge, his second the dark elf magister Tel'vanik Corvisies Alvindia.

Tactics

They prefer ambush tactics, fighting with overwhelming firepower and sheer sudden applications of great force and violence. Pirate tactics, though in their latest assignment, they have to adapt of course, but still practice the concept of sheer overwhelming force.

Training

Most of these men and women are in their late thirties and early forties, and have been pirates for almost a decade. Before that many of them were sailors of some kind and about half spent time in the Coast Guard, or among River Watches, the inland equivalent of the Coast Guard.

Logistics

Logistical Support

More or less they have been self sufficient up until three years ago. Now of course, they are under the support of, and employ of, the Cult of the All Seeing.

Auxilia

They can call upon the cult, and generally, given that the necromancer and Scath Magister Tel'vanik is technically one of Blackwell's crew, the reinforcements would often be Fell Shamblers.
