Artium Baruntacht Geographic Location in Tariek Rough Collection | World Anvil

Artium Baruntacht

These islands and the waters around them are the lands of the Artium Baruntacht, a new estate, awarded for excellency of service and bravery to Lanvori Artium, and his family. He was risen up to the elite, to the noble and ruling caste. As such, this region has an interesting cultural backdrop.

Though the least populated estate in the province, it is one that is looked upon with favor, and this is in no large part because of whom is in charge. The noble whom holds the land. This is a new member of the ruling caste, pulled up by deed. The common man, a Vrock, no less, risen up by deeds and excellency of service, and awarded not just with wealth or a bit of land to retire on and die quietly upon, but awarded with true nobility. Because of this, those in power here, generally are far more progressive than many, and a staunch supporter of the changing times, this beginning of industrialization, and the potential of closing this gap, of it being empowering for the working class, to lift the many. They support a more engaged and involved populace. Fiolag Artium may be the most fervorant ally and bannerman of Lord Protectorate Vithang.

Geography

Below are very brief descriptors and hooks to give you an idea of geographic regions, as well as the larger towns. The towns will also have rough population listed in brackets, and a limited description of the place, along with two or three interesting rumors, hooks or facts. Villages will be but pins on the attached map, with a brief description and a population listed not much else.

GEOGRAPHIC PLACES OF NOTE:

Morgav Range: A simple name, a dwarven slang for 'Morgana's' this mountain range is known for its craggy nature, rough, even by mountain standards, terrain, and the dangerous fauna. Bestials hold sway on the mountains, yeti and the like. Snowcats prowl the lower reaches and valleys, apex predators, dominant, for no white bears make their home here. Other strange and mighty beasts and monsters are said to live far within the mountain range. It is a place that provides bounty, mountain goat and bighorn sheep are plentiful and provide much for communities on the edges of these mountains. But they also provide a lot of danger and risk.

Lake Morgana/Morga River: This river is so named for the lake it flows from, and is named for the statue found upon the island here, of a bygone era, a female figure that the locals dubbed Morgana, after a saint of Sir Kartheart. In truth, it is not known whom the statue is of, or even what the strange, semi metallic construction is made of. The monolith's features are faded, to the point where no scholar whom has made the pilgrimage can even say for certain the strange reddish-silver statue is depicting a human woman, much less say for certain that it is Merciful Morgana, one of the saints recognized formally by Sir Kartheart's church. Whatever it is and whomever it was meant to depict, in the current time it is a point of pilgrimage for the faithful, and seems to have an effect upon most of them spiritually.

Arthaz Glacier: This glacier is named for the dwarf whom first traversed the area, Arthaz Vikomac Yvilz. This glacier is also rumored, if his chronicles are to be believed, to have at one time been home to a white scaled dragon, though it is well known that Arthaz was a heavy drinker, even by dwarven standards, and due to the remote location and difficulty of the ascent, very few are bold or foolhardy enough to come in search of such a thing. The locals in the village of Arthis on the coast, however, do have many tales of seeing a beast of some kind, winged and scales white as snow, though it is never from the source, always 'ach well twas me father whom told me, rest 'is soul', or the like. Though very few of those bold or foolhardy whom have ever come in search make it back, and fewer still are those whom talk much, if at all, about what they encountered up amongst the wilds of the glacier and its ledges, caverns and tunnels.

TOWNS/CITIES:

Port Armos (9473): https://www.worldanvil.com/world/settlement/24f7fefb-e396-4591-96ee-f90728a40476/edit

Port Spruce (4174): This port town is a small but vital export port for lumber harvested in the region, along with paper made from it. The large paper mill in the town is a key employer, as are the lumber yards and docks, making up a majority of the jobs. It is also a heavily fortified town for its size and this of course makes sense, given it is nestled up against the White-Tip Mountain Range. A hardy settlement, the folk here are generally quite competent and rather independent, for they know that they will often be left to have to take care of themselves, that help will likely take to long to arrive should they need it. This, of course has effected the behavior and...hospitality that locals show towards outsiders. Recently, the lumber camps west of the town have been struggling, and a few workers have been brutally butchered, though no one seems to know anything about this, and there have been no witnesses.....
