Ashe C2 Episode 45 - Team Copenhaus Saves the Queen

Previously On Liters of Tomorrow...
In the city of Warshaw a bridge known as the Queen's Span was destroyed with an incendiary device.  In the attempt to stop the destruction of the bridge you failed, but more importantly you saved the life of Princess Lydia Wardashaw.  The bomb was placed to assassinate her and to remover her from the line of succession.  With the help of Sava Cogson you all put together the plot hatched by a warforged man named Revetan the Reclaimer.  A former nemesis of Sava's father, Cog. 
Concurrently a portal opened up on the other side of the bridge and the strange beetle from the darkfae skittered into it.  Giving chase Truffle, Wes, and Bon Vee leapt into the portal before it closed.  The rest of you were left to deal with the captain of the guard and his many questions on the violence that had just taken place on the bridge.  Captain Ragar Heaton believed your story on the plot and the events that had just taken place.  So much so that he agreed to place you on the guard force supplied to the next day's social event, the Summer Solstice Gala.  Finn,however, managed to procure an invite by the thankful Princess Lydia as her guest. 
Despite your pressing need to travel to Copenhaus to aid Mausim's sister you all decided to help Sava finally expose Revetan and save the Royal Family. Sava had a theory that Revetan was posing as someone close to Prince Vestun.  The royal who had the most to gain from the death of his sisters.  He posited that the assassins would try again during the Gala.  After a long rest the team swung into action and began to prepare.  Demaia procured a scroll of Detect Poison assuming food or drink would be tainted.  Nuth learned a new spell to try to stop anyone from escaping quickly into the night.  Finn dressed himself appropriately taking advantage of an expensive tailor. Mausim spoke with Captain Ragar to properly position the team for the night's event.
During the Gala as Finn escorted the princess around, the rest of the team got to work.  Demaia sniffed out some poison food being brought directly to the Queen's table, she intercepted it and tracked down the source of the tainted food.  Unfortunately a cook who took a large payout.  Nuth and Mausim closed in on the Prince's advisor Viktor Stenkov.  Dispelling an impressive illusion spell he was quickly revealed to be Revetan the evil Warforged.  The prince quickly fled the scene but Revetan summoned to clockwork golems to attack the team.  
A bloody battle ensued and the gala erupted into chaos as nobles and servants panicked and began to stampede out every available exit.  The team fought against the golems and Revetan.  The crafty warforged tried multiple times to escape but was thwarted with a combination of Nuth's new Void spell and a quick dispel on magical flying.  At the end the team was victorious but the Queen herself lay dead, cut down by the golem's blade.

Plot points/Scenes

The following day...
You all awake after a long rest, once more in the great Bulongo Inn. You give a brief thought to what your companions may be doing in the DarkFae. As you wander down to the common room you are met by Captain Ragar Heaton. He stands with one of his lieutenants, Politon Frey. An earth Genasi man with ruddy red skin, and a crystalline scalp.
"You all are as good as advertised. Corsun Knows what would have happened last night if you hadn't been there." He hands you a bottle of champagne from the gala, it looks to be from an impressive vintage.
"Several of these went unopened last night I thought you all could make some use of it. I have several of my own guards in chains this morning thanks to your investigative work during the bridge explosion. That reminds me, the Queen herself is asking for audience with all of you. She has been confined to bedrest after her severe injuries, but she still lives thanks to the quick actions of all of you."   He pulls out a wooden box filled with items. "We went to his quarters to check out your story and we found these. The servants said he almost never ate or drank, including wine or ale. A rarity indeed for a Vizier." He chuckles at his own joke. He turns to you Nuth, and hands you a small bundle. "I assume you are a wizard with training from the assembly, I'm giving these to you hoping you can figure out what they are."
A meeting with the Queen
As you walk into the room you see the Queen reclining in a four post bed with several clerics and doctors milling about in the room. She seems stable if not pale. Her normally dark brown skin a little grey around the lips and cheeks. Her usually bright eyes a little yellow and bloodshot. As she sees you approach the glint with recognition. Her mind seems as sharp as ever.
"So you are the mercenaries who saved my daughter's life on the bridge? It seems I now owe you a debt as well. How odd that such an interesting mix of outsiders would show up twice to help my family."
As she fixes her eyes on you Finn she says "Lydia also tells me that you may know the whereabouts of crown jewels that were recently stolen?"
Mausim, she looks at you and asks "My sources tell me that you are heading east to Copenhaus soon, My informers tell me that House Nuxhall has been removed from power. A strange warlord has taken over the city. House Durrilan in Penthos is almost in a full blown panic. My informants say that armies are massing in all of the major city states. These are dangerous times "
"If you are seeking passage I know of a ship captain whom you could hire, she is known for her discretion. If you would rather travel by road I can help to provide some provisions, possibly even some potions. Make your decisions and contact Captain Ragar when you are ready."

Sava Cogson
[DM Note Sava will attempt to set up a meeting between Cog and Finn. This is difficult because Cog has moved his home base recently. He is deep in Oraheim underneath the Dreiduaras Dome researching how to defeat the Dark One. Down there he is safe from scrying but also prevents any message spell from reaching him.]
"Finn, you and your team were most helpful in revealing the plot of Revetan the Reclaimer. Defeating him removes a dangerous enemy of my father and saves many lives here in Warshaw. I will reach out to Cog to try to set up a meeting between you. He is currently unreachable by message spell but I will find a way to make contact. Look for me in the city of Orahero deep in the Forest Realms. There is a temple of the Fifth Element there known as The Temple of Fire's Ember. My order is dedicated to the use of knowledge for the good of all realms. "
"When your business has concluded in Copenhaus you may look for me there."
Nuth and the Assembly
As Nuth walks the streets of Warshaw he will be recognized by an old acquaintence.  His supervisor and teacher at the Assembly of the Weave Mage College in Allachi.  
Adept Jean-Luc Addermire has now been promoted to Arch Magus Addemire.  He wears the Dark Green robes with lime embroidered accents of the school of Enchantment.   He walks with another Arch Magus by the name of Ruddlemeier and a younger man in his 20's who wears the grey jacket with the high collar of someone who has been gentled.  A former warlock who has renounced his patron and pledged to learn magic the correct way.  His name is Devon Wrench.  "Ah if it isn't Nuth Welker famous magician and former student of mine!"  He walks across the busy street to chat with you. 
"I had no idea you were in town, have you heard of our new office opening soon over on Corker street?  Quite an achievement by one of our ambassadors.  We helped with the clean up on the rather embarrassing vault theft that took place last month."
"Nuth you were always an exceptional student and I see that you are now in some form of private investigation business, would you perchance want to help us with some missing information?"
  "You know when I was down in the vaults we were required to remove a rather massive gelatinous creature who could have threatened the security of the city.  These rather clever thieves used the creature to escape the proper authorities, though I theorize that it may have impeded their overall goals. It was rather dangerous.  Anyway while I was down there I could have sworn I saw a man who resembles one of your compatriots.  Any information you could give us would be quite valuable.  I could make it worth your while in gold, or perhaps a position with the Assembly once more?  A promotion and a permanent office."

The Pineapple Blade, Small Freighter
Captain Queverly - Water Genasi woman with a shady past. She is currently trying to get out of Warshaw before the East Tellenheim Company finds out she stole a good portion of their cargo from the dock fire. Mostly Coffee, Barrels of Wine, and silk.
She will charge 25 gold per passenger for the trip to Copenhaus.
  • First Mate - A scruffy looking goblin man named Chilldrat Grunk.  Balding wears a black tri corner hat.  Let eye is scarred and milky white. 
  • Bosun - Halfling woman named Rittering Bark, tan skin with long black hair pulled into a ponytail.
  • Chef - Tortle man named Galapago Jo, Light green skin with a dark bluish green shell.  
  • Powder Monkey - Halfling man named Grapeshot, Shaggy brown hair with two fingers missing on his left hand.
  • Gunner - Human Woman named Buna Trove, Black Hair trimmed on the left side, dark skin muscular.
  • Sailmaster - Aarokocra woman with macaw like features named Caraloo Rheet.  Blue and green feathers on top of head with white around eyes.
  • Mate - Halfling woman named Annabel Gristlefoot, lighter skin and dirty blonde hair.  From the town of Vela'Rus. 
  • Mate - Human man named Gunter Rifesway, Bald man with broad shoulders and a black moustache.

If by ship..
[DM Note:  If the team chooses this path on the second day of the journey they will be attacked by Jovus Flamedancer.  He scrys on Mausim to figure out where they have gone and he summons elementals to attack the ship.  Earth, Fire, Air, and Water elementals appear out of nowhere and begin to tear apart the ship!]

Conflict

If by land...
Grantebridge Strahan -
[DM Note: Grantebridge has been scrying on the team and will set up a trap for them. He is using a river crossing as his battle field and has set up archers and cavalry to hem them in. He is quite aware of their array of abilities. He has also brought along quite a bit of Hell hornet poison to use as well.]
The two calvalry men from Strahan's detachment will begin to follow the team.  They spied them several days ago entering Warshaw and now thanks to Jovus' scrying they now tail the team to set up the ambush.  The team will get perception checks possibly aided by Aerin.
Corporal Revis Damago - Human man, large scar on his chin, black hair. From Copenhaus Sergeant Talasco Brigg - Half Orc man, younger with a black ponytail.
Jovus Flamedancer - A dark elf and a member of the Assembly of the Weave. He has been contracted by Strahan to run his operation. He is the hound and the secret weapon. He has a staff of fireball that allows him to use the spell three times. He tattoos every prisoner on the back of their necks with a glyph. This allows him to magically track them wherever they go. Strahan hates runaways.

Other Encounters -
The team may encounter Drow Scouts who are worried about invasion. They have little information on the surface world and don't realize that the true threat is coming from Vernabogge in Copenhaus. He has begun to send tremors into the underdark as he constructs his device. The Drow will have mounts and creatures that should be interesting.
Marrow Stalkers Creatures! - see stats in Current folder.  The Drow are using them for protection and to hunt people aligned with Vernabogge.  Their spies and informers have been warning of war fomenting somewhere in Penthaheim.     The Drow Stalkers- Members of the Mist's Eye, See their article in World Anvil.

Languages, Elven, Undercommon, Sylvan
Fey Ancestry: The drow has advantage on saving throws against being charmed, and magic can't put the drow to sleep.
    Innate Spellcasting: The drow's spellcasting ability is Charisma (spell save DC 11). It can innately cast the following spells, requiring no material components:
At will: dancing lights
1/day each: darkness, faerie fire
Sunlight Sensitivity: While in sunlight, the drow has disadvantage on attack rolls, as well as on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight.
Refugees led by Adventure Team veterans
Whether by sea or by land the team will meet a group of refugees fleeing Copenhaus and the surrounding area.  They are being led two former sailors of the Wet Dream.  They also travel with a Barbarian from the Aerodon Steppe who lost his arm to Vernabogge.  
Ultafiro Hicks - An older human man in his 60's.  He has burn scars along the left side of his face.  He used to sail with Adventure Team Grimm 30 years ago and was burned by a demon.  He retired in Copenhaus a few years ago after the Wet Dream was decommissioned. 
Borgullus Cro - A Tortle man who used to sail with Hicks.  He looks much the same despite the 30 years in between.  He was a ship's carpenter for most of his life until he retired in Copenhaus and started a small furniture shoppe. 
Relfar Crowshout - A human man who stands almost 7 feet tall.  His left arm is missing and he walks with a large crutch due to a leg injury.
