Omni-Assault Drone Item in Tales of Justice | World Anvil

Omni-Assault Drone

And then there’s this thing. The Big Brother of the other ones… sort of. This stupid thing cost me a perfectly good heist… er… I mean contract opportunity.

But there is good news and bad news to this one. Ok, good news? There’s only one. Dr. Overmind just doesn’t have the spare gear at any given time to have more than one. Now, the bad news?

It ‘learns’ every time it, or its siblings, fight something, so tactics against it don’t always work twice in a row…

The third, and final, model in the “Omni” series is the Omni-Assault Drone. For just those time where a criminal wants to send the very best in rampant collateral damage. Provided that criminal is Dr. Overmind. Usually.

I’ve heard he can be talked into renting it out for parties…

As the name suggests, this version combines the best of the Omni series with the concept of Assault. The robot comes equipped with four phased ionic energy burst emitters, taser netting, repulsor flight pack, and portable combat shield. Of course it enjoys the same ‘shape shifting’ abilities as the rest of the Omni series.

Sounds like a good time to me…

Also, like all the Omni series, this robot learns from its encounters. No matter against conventional threats or meta-powered individuals, the Omni-Assault Drone learns, then adapts it’s tactics on the fly to neutralize opponents. The goal is always minimal collateral damage. But as the saying goes, “you can’t make an omelet without breaking a few eggs.”

Mechanics & Inner Workings

Like any of the Omni series, the Omni-Assault Drone isn’t a single robot unit or device. Omni-drone technology is actually a ‘hive’ of hundreds of smaller, cylindrical drones. Each one of these drones is no longer than 1.5 in (38mm) and has a diameter of 8.25 in (209.55mm).

Each cylinder is designed to be a ‘cell’ of the ‘hive’. With certain ‘cells’ being tasked for material gathering in case repair is needed. Some are energy generation and emission drones. Others are communication drones, providing instruction between member cells and back to the drone operator. They also provide updates to their creator, Dr. Overmind, as well. This is in case he wishes to use the data feed of an Omni-drone verses “superhero” or vigilante fight as a ‘pay-per-view’ opportunity.

Ok, to be fair. I’ve tuned into a couple of Overmind’s pay-per-views. They’re not bad! From a… scientific research point of view…

The core of the Omni ‘hive’ is a small, half-sized frisbee disk called the ‘hub’. This hub acts as the ‘brain’ of the Omni drone, controlling and directing the actions of the mini-drones in the hive like a seasoned conductor of a destructive, criminally inclined, orchestra. While directing, the hub maintains the steady contact with Dr. Overmind… and any optional renter of the unit.

If the hub is separated from the main colony, the disk-shaped droid has a trio of retractable legs to provide it mobility to escape curious hands. This disk is 8.3 in (21cm) in diameter and weight, only a mere 4.6 oz (130 grams).

Top Secret! Open only if you're sure!

In truth, the 'hub drone' wasn't developed by Dr. Overmind. The superhero, Tesla Coil member of the Knights Vigilant, actually invented it. Overmind actually stole the design, which led immediately to a bitter rivalry between the two.

  • Power Bonus and Limitations
  • Force Shield: Can Attack Through Field
  • Repulsion: This is the Omni-Assault Drone launching the Force Shield as a large energy disk at an opponent. Once launched, the shield must recharge, which takes one combat phase to do so. Treat as 0AP Force Shield during recharge.
  • Snare represents a 'taser net' which deploys on contact a Lightning Power discharge using the RAPs gained on success of the Snare roll.
  • Radio communication is encrypted levels of satellite/wifi/bluetooth. Used for hub to communicate to the parts and to Overmind.
  • Self Manipulation can only mimic different physical constructs or effects (such as simulate 'stretching' or 'snare'). It cannot form new shapes to produce kinetic attacks or new kinds of energy attacks. It is the central droid reconfiguring the mini-drones around it.
  • Flight is using repulsor tech to move the whole 'colony' of drones and main droid. It can be used in place of Dex for dodge defense, but this means that is all the drone is doing for that combat round.
  • if Skin Armor is used, then Self Manipulation may not be used that combat round.
  • Self Manipulation cannot be used with Force Shield, Energy Blast, or Repulsion at the same time. If one is used, the other power may not be used.

Unh huh. Quick question, Tomcat: Do same tactics work against you twice in a row?
