Anamat
"Anamat, is a harsh and beautiful place to travel across, but only the strong and resourceful can survive this place, for that is how it always treats its guests and inhabitants as long as it has been like this."
Anamat is one of the continents on the world of Cevantia, located south of Vlaikune and southwest of Talaman. "Anamatan" is the term for things coming from or a person being from Anamat.
Geography
Anamat is known as a continent of deserts and mountains, with few bastions of civilization to be found. As as the eye can see, the desert seems to be endless with nothing but sand and rock revealing itself. There are only few places in Anamat that can sustain waters in a place like this, let alone a place for shade. The continent spans from the Spine Ridge mountains towards the South, to the Sea of Shelde up North and the Uncrossable Sea to the West. There are also many settlements that are within the desert, with most of them having a water source close by to survive. But the largest and civilization in Cevantia, Val Liongris, the Desert Empire of Roses, mostly live on the coasts to better survive the desert. Along with the ruins of long dead settlements that are slowly consumed by the desert, only to be revealed by it from time to time again.
Fauna & Flora
The land has few plants that grow in such a harsh place, with only some being able to grow were there is actually water. However, the rarity makes them quite the haul when found, as many of the plants are coveted by many throughout the world and are hard to find by even the most seasoned explorers. One example is the Black Lotus Flower
As for the animals that live here, they are mostly reptilian in nature and often very large, with some even able to reach the height of a single story building. Their are some birds and other mammals, here and their who are able to survive the harsh environment that is their home.
History
During the Beginning, Anamat was a large continent that was filled with lush lands. When humanoids first started appearing throughout the world, Anamat was the place that fathered the first inklings of civilization. During the early years of the war between the Gods and the Leviathans of Water, Fire, Air, and Earth, and even the warring nations on the continent turned the once beautiful and lush landscape into one that is covered in a vast dry desert, with rare glimpses of its former glory.
Not even two centuries after the Cataclysm, Anamatan explorers settled into the fertile coasts and created the Empire of Val Liongris, and from then began to exert influence on other continents. Many other groups have tried to rise and usurp the Empire, but all have failed. The closest to actually achieve this however, was the Dominion of Fur-Cel which have sense been destroyed.
Anamat then became a great continent with a great civilization, mostly because of one man, the Invincible Silver King Dritan. The Silver King saw that the devils below him were evil and cruel, and the gods above were uncaring. His people would live, worship, and perish all for the well-being of the celestial host, the gods who fed upon the adoration of man. The Silver King sought to usurp the gods and wished man to live for man alone, so he toiled in secret, using his own power to shield his plot even from the prying eyes of the gods. Then, one night, he set his plan into action. The Silver King's decree echoed throughout the material plane. All men should bow to the gods no longer and shall turn their adoration toward him. His loyal subjects obeyed, turning a heretical eye from their pantheons and bathing the Silver King in light, all except for his most trusted advisor Marcel Coskun. The Silver King took this opportunity to dabble with chronomancy, putting his final plans in motion. This led to him assassinating his closest ally and disguising it as the demons in the hells taking his life, while the gods just watched. Just like that, his plan was complete, and the Silver King received an outpour of worship and became an ascendant, then called The Golden Emperor.
After almost half a century of war between the Gods, the Demons & Devils in Hell, and The Golden Emperor, he was finally defeated and the continent of Anamat was almost destroyed in the aftermath. It took some time to get back to relative normalcy, but it eventually happened. Anamat is a cultural and economical powerhouse in Cevantia today.
