Seeker's Society Organization in Tales of Cevantia | World Anvil

Seeker's Society

The Seeker's Society is a globe-spanning organization based out of Val Liongris, the largest city in the world. The membership consists primarily of Seekers, adventurers who travel throughout Cevantia, usually inconspicuously, as they explore, delve, and otherwise experience the lesser seen and dangerous parts of the world. They send journals documenting their travels back to their Seeker Captains, who also assign them new missions and suggests new places to explore. The most exciting and illuminating of these journals are compiled in the Seeker Archives, a large book that collect the history and mysteries of Cevantia.

Structure

The day to day running of the Seeker Society is managed by the Seeker Leaders. These are usually older or accomplished Seekers, or long-time allies of the organization who have settled down, and claimed a Seeker hq for themselves. They direct Seekers in the field towards new and interesting locales, and receive the regular reports that will eventually become part of the Archives. They receive their instruction from The Seven, a secret body of seven individuals who pass messages along to the leaders in subtle and silent ways. Little is known about The Seven, not even their ultimate goals for the collection of the endless data the Society receives.

Public Agenda

The Seeker's Society generally takes a hands off approach with its explorers, leaving them to pursue their own leads, and chose their own priorities. Seekers are only expected to explore the mysteries of the multiverse, report what they find, and cooperate with one another in order to assure the success of the first two duties. Seekers are expected to report their findings to their Leaders, who collect and review these records, and pass on the best to be placed in the Seeker Archives.

Territories

The Society maintains a number of Seeker Branches across the world. These buildings are sometimes owned by the Society and are typically run by a Seeker Leader. Seekers may stay at a branch for as long as they like, as long as they are on official Seeker business, but most branches offer little food and few free services in order to discourage freeloaders. Seeker Leaders also serve as information conduits upon request, passing on messages or requests to other branches, or the Seeker HQ in Val Liongris. They also keep a small supply of inexpensive and singlen use magic items and mundane gear in stock, and these are available for sale to any Seeker who has need of them. More money-hungry leaders have been known to greatly overcharge their agents for these supplies if they believe the Seeker have come across a large hoard of treasure while exploring.   Many lodges are also owned and maintained independently by members of the Society, who must show that they meet the basic qualifications of a lodge to gain and maintain their status.

The Seeker HQ

The HQ is a massive fortress complex located in Val Liongris's Foreign Quarter, and is the center of all Seeker Society activity. It serves not only as a training facility for new Seeker, but is also designed to inspire its members. While during the day, its well-tended lawns and monument strewn plazas are filled with Seekers regaling each other with tales of their exploits, at night the paths are lit by magical lights, and the sound of stories and songs can be heard from countless open windows.

Education

The Society is willing to accept members of all backgrounds, creeds, and morals. Any applicant who does well enough overall on the initial tests is allowed to take the oath and become an trainee. Training is overseen by three masters at the HQ's in Val Liongris by the Master of Swords, the Master of Spells, and the Master of Scrolls. The final test, known as the Proving, is taken after three years as an trainee(although ambitious or gifted initiates may persuade the masters to allow them to take the test earlier). The test is effectively the trainee's first mission; those who pass become Seekers, and those who fail are discharged from the Society.
